Preparing a Survey Questionnaire Using Government Economic Data
Answered

The task of this assignment is to prepare (develop) a survey questionnaire to elaborate on the finding from the government economic data.

Note: This is an academic exercise only. You will not actually do any surveys.

To complete this assignment, read Discussion Question 9 in Chapter 12 of your textbook (p. 317) as well as the information provided below.
Government economic data reveals that young adults, not middle-aged or older adults, are having the most difficult time in today’s economy. Although the nation’s labor market shows a decline in the unemployment rate, the percentage of young adults, ages 18 to 24, currently employed (54%) is at the lowest level since government data collection began in 1948.

You are working for a national survey organization doing a general public survey of young adults and older adults. First, reflect on what topics and questions would you design into your survey to elaborate on this finding from the government economic data. Prepare (develop) a survey questionnaire.

Before you start this assignment, you will need to explore a range of topics related to what affects employment. Some topics might include job search, job qualifications, job-related skills, interviewing skills, relevant work experiences, networking skills, membership in professional networks, etc., as well as lifestyle issues (e.g., location, willingness to move, salary expectations, personality fit, benefits expectations, etc.).

Once you have explored and have a better understanding on these topics, the next step is to develop one or more questions related to each (any relevant) topic, as well as to develop classification questions.

Use a variety of appropriate question formats keeping in mind the challenges of coding the data when the survey is actually administered.
Limit the questionnaire to a maximum of three 8" x 11½" pages, with a reasonable font size, plus a cover sheet with your name and ID. You will be assessed on the content, order, and structure of your questions, not the graphic design of the questionnaire.
