influence of lifestyle on chronic disease Purpose The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with experience in seeking out evidence-based information regarding a particular chronic disease. You will learn how lifestyle choices can be a risk-factor for the disease and also how lifestyle changes can help to affect disease management. Instructions: Select a particular disease (not infectious – infectious diseases are acute in nature and not affected by lifestyle factors such as physical activity and nutrition). Your project involves writing a maximum of 7 pages (not including reference page, title page and/or appendices) addressing the following about your chosen disease: Description of the disease – this refers to the cause and biological abnormality associated with the disease. This is sometimes referred to as ‘etiology’ or ‘pathology’ or ‘pathophysiology’. Prevalence of the disease: Incidence: this is statistical – how many people get have the disease in various populations Complications associated with the disease- How does the disease affect the patient’s daily life? For example, does it affect their ability to work? Socialize? Play sports or engage in activities? Do they have to monitor/measure anything on a daily basis?, etc. Comorbidities – Explain any comorbidities that the patient may experience in the future as a result of their disease. Life expectancy/Mortality – identify the life expectancy of a patient with the disease that you’ve chosen compared to a healthy individual. In addition, identify the primary cause of death for patients with the disease Lifestyle modification to manage/treat the disease – identify if lifestyle changes can help the patient in managing/treating their disease. This section must include actual research to support any of the lifestyle changes (include statistics) Summary and conclusion References: Finding appropriate, scholarly references is key to successful completion of this assignment. The only acceptable references are primary and secondary research articles and/or text books. Government websites (ex. Center for disease control) can be used for prevalence/statistical information.
