I am a student from one of the Secondary School in Sabah, Malaysia.
My school and district every year, will be flooded 2 times.
This is mainly because of the poor drainage system, deforestation, illegal logging, monsoon winds and too much rubbish being thrown to the drain river and sea
The river becoming shallower and shallower.
If it’s rain for 2-3 days nonstop, my school and the whole district will be flooded.
Yearly flooding and its potential harm to the water quality. In Malaysia, it is not uncommon to read news of flooding in either the northern or southern states of the peninsula and in east Malaysia. It happens at least once or twice a year in states such as Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor and SABAH. Deforestation, illegal logging, poor drainage systems and monsoon winds are often deemed as the main causes behind the annual flooding. Among the impacts that flooding leaves on the environment is pollution as these heavy floods will often wash chemicals and sewage into other bodies of water or areas of habitation. Besides chemicals, bacterial diseases such as leptospirosis (which is often fatal) also gets easily spread into human villages trough the heavy flood water.
Apart from that, because of the flood, students cannot attend classes as school was badly affected, most of the student’s home in Penampang, Sabah district are also affected badly and they could not come to school and school need to be closed for 2-3 days for cleaning up.
Perhaps these pictures can put on the last part appendices or any part that is suitable. Need to search from the internet on the DATA’s and more pictures on the flood in Penampang, Sabah.
