Assessment Instructions
Write a 1,500 word essay on the following topic:  
‘Applying the PEST framework analyse the relevant factors for the period 2010 -2025 that will influence the strategic decision of a multinational manufacturing firm to set up business operation in the UK.’
PEST analysis is one of the major external environmental analysis that is used by all types of business organisations around the world.  Your task in this assignment is to present and analyse time series statistical trends between 2010 - 2025 for ONE determinant of each of the four PEST factors to identify sources of costs, benefits and risks that the UK market poses on a firm wishing to undertake a large investment and set up or expand operation in the country.

You will benefit from your endeavor if you choose a manufacturing industry from the Reading List and to consider your choice of PEST determinants appropriately.  This will enable you to carry out a good level of analytical research of the UK market and to summarize your findings for both favourable and unfavourable factors.  You should consider those market factors that will affect the future business prospect of the firm and hence the decision as to whether they should set up the operation in the UK or not.  You are strongly advised to begin work early and closely with your allocated PAL Leader who have been well informed for this task.  
Marking Criteria 
The following criteria will be used in evaluating this assignment. 
Define the purpose of PEST analysis and outline some of the main constituents of each factor.  (Word limit = 200 words; weight = 15%).

Present time series forecast line trends 2010 – 2025 for one of your chosen element of each factor with a brief explanation.  (Word limit = 300 words; weight = 35%).

Discuss the business implications of your line trends in terms of risk, costs and benefits for setting up a manufacturing base in the UK. (Word limit = 1000 words; weight = 40%).

Use of (a) both in-text and end-text UWE Harvard referencing, (b) clear writing style that includes sentence and paragraph structures, punctuation, font size and page numbering (Weight = 10%).
