This assignment has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your achievement of the following module learning outcomes:

LO 3 Defend your presentation in a question-and-answer session;


LO 4 Reflect on any feedback and how you could improve your next presentation.

Following the assignment brief and guide, prepare an evidence-based business presentation (750 words), you will then prepare a reflective report of the presentation slides, your development and learning experience.


This reflective report should demonstrate your learning and development across the module and include reflection on ideas for your learning journey, improvement, and development (750 words).

Prepare and submit an annotated PowerPoint presentation (10 – 12 slides maximum) on the topic Effective Business Communication In The Workplace


You should research broadly to develop a fully evidenced and referenced PowerPoint presentation slides with notes. The presentation should make use of visual aids appropriate to the business context and audience of the topic. You will be asked to ‘defend’ your ideas in a Q&A session with your tutor via email (LO2 & LO3).

•Your audience (based on the topic given) and appropriate modes of engaging them.


•The kind of language you use in the presentation.


•Clarity in language, speech, and visuals


•The level of detail you provide in visuals and in your notes.


•Time management (making sure you get through what you need to in the time provided)


•What is missing in the work – it is often not possible to cover everything so you will have to choose what you leave out or only touch on; you might think about signalling this as something to come back to in the Q&A


•What kinds of questions you might be asked in the Q&A.?

Based on your learning and development across the module, prepare a reflective report (750 words) discussing and defining the key components of effective business communication and reflect on your learning journey using a reflective model (e.g., Gibbs Reflective cycle), alongside ideas for improvement and development.

Also using the scripts of your presentation PowerPoint slides, you should reflect on any formative feedback provided and learning experiences while developing the presentation sides or doing research for the reflective report (LO1 & LO4).

You should think about the following questions while writing your reflective report:

•What have I learnt about good business communication from the module and from doing the research for developing your PowerPoint presentation slides?

•What elements of the presentation were particularly successful and why?


•How might you improve the presentation (try to give specific examples) and what can you do to achieve that improvement?

The report should be written in a business report format, consisting of a title page, a table of contents page, the main body of the report using appropriate headings covering main points discussed, and a reference list page.

Both part 1 & 2 of the assignment brief tasks (PowerPoint Presentation slides plus 750 words speaker notes and the 750 words Reflective Report) must be written and submitted on Moodle as one single 1,500 words Microsoft Word document.

Your work will be assessed on the extent to which it demonstrates your achievement of the stated learning outcomes for this assignment (see above) and against other key criteria, as defined in the University’s institutional grading descriptors. If it is appropriate to the format of your assignment and your subject area, a proportion of your marks will also depend upon your use of academic referencing conventions.
