Creating a Business Proposition for a Campsite: Key Operational Considerations

Clarifying the Business Model Canvas and Value Proposition

On completion of this component of assessment students should be able to:

1. Evaluate the role and contribution of the operations function in modern businesses

As a budding entrepreneur, you see the rising demand for staycations in the UK as an investment opportunity. As such you are considering investing in a piece of land with the intention to convert this into a campsite. You will be asking for funding, either from a bank or private investor. As part of your preparations to obtain funding, you decide to create a presentation which details some of the operational aspects of the business.

Task

Given that there are many different types of campsites, for example family friendly, glamping, eco-campsites etc. you need to give careful consideration to your business proposition. In addition to this, you will also need to examine a number of key operational considerations.

You need to produce a PowerPoint presentation which includes the following:

I.Clarify the strategy by focussing on Osterwalder’s and Pigneur’s (2009) Business Model Canvas, specifically the value proposition and its supporting activities.

II.Clarification of the operational capabilities and how this contributes to the company’s overall business strategy, reference to Hayes and Wheelwright’s (1984) model should be included.

III.The Operation’s transformation process complete with feedback and feedforward loops. As part of the transformation process, you should include an example of a process map, which details how one of the operations is performed.

IV.Describe and justify how quality will be managed at the site.

V.Describe and justify how sustainability will be implemented at the campsite

As previously mentioned, your PowerPoint presentation should adhere to the following criteria:

• Audio should be no longer than 10 minutes in total (you should use the ‘screen recording’ function in PowerPoint)
• Additional notes attached to each slide
• Content should be referenced using Harvard referencing.
