Module Learning outcomes:

Module Overview
This module belongs to the Subject Study strand of the programme.

This module aligns to the overall philosophy and aims of the BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS programme and the Teachers’ Standards by responding to the changes and developments in primary education.  It will enable you to become a highly reflective teacher.  It will also support you in becoming an innovative and resilient leader of learning with a personal commitment to shaping the future of the teaching profession. In this module, you will be supervised by an experienced tutor who will guide and support you so that you can conduct research relevant to your subject study in a supportive and nurturing environment.  It will actively encourage you to develop your research skills and to pursue your learning journey at Masters level and beyond.

As a teacher you are expected to demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct.  This module will provide you with opportunities to meet Teachers’ Standards 3 and 8.  You will be able to demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge and fulfil your wider professional responsibilities.  Teachers are also expected to uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school.  This module will ensure that you have regard for the need to safeguard pupils’ well-being, in accordance with statutory provisions.  You will have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school in which you will conduct your research.

This module aligns with the programme learning, teaching and assessment strategy in that it will engage you in deep learning, foster your development as an autonomous learner and build your capacity to become a lifelong learner.  You will be supervised by tutors who are research active and responsive to change.  This module will be delivered through lectures and workshops which will supplement your independent work. The assessment will encourage you to develop a range of important transferable skills including developing your academic writing skills, presentational skills, collaboration and research skills.
