On completion of this unit you should be able to:

• Collect, synthesise, and analyse relevant data from different academic and practitioner sources that will enable you to evaluate key issues associated with international business environments, international firm strategies, and firms’ global operations.

What am I required to do in this assignment?

Assessment 1: Report on international business

The objective of this assessment is to provide a brief account of current research in a self-selected area within International Business.

You need to choose a topic from the list below:

• International trade theories and agreements
• Entering Foreign Markets (Modes of Entry)
• Global production
• Global human resource management.
• Global marketing

Within the topic area that you have chosen from the listing above, you must then identify a more specific topic. The more specific your self-selected topic is, the better you will be able to identify relevant and key literature in relation to the subject matter, which in turn will help you to keep focused – likely to lead to a coherent piece of work.

You should be using a range of academic sources, e.g. journal articles and market reports, which you can access via Discover, for example. It is good practice to mostly use high-quality academic sources and keep references to random Internet sites to an absolute minimum. The librarians are also there to support you in finding and using high-quality academic information.

• Critically examine, explain and discuss the key assumptions in the literature

How does assignment relate to what we are doing in scheduled sessions?

We will be investigating issues around a range of aspects relevant to international business. The main purpose of Assessment 1 is to give you the opportunity to relate principles, theories, and key issues you have developed through lectures and seminars with real international business scenarios. It also helps you to develop your skills in evaluating international business environments, evaluating strategies, strengths and weaknesses of the international firm, collecting relevant data, analysing and summarising key issues, and making appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
