  5. Critically engage with data and one's own and others’ research. This will involve evaluation of knowledge claims, taking account of analytical rigour, assumptions, quality of argument, and sources of bias.
Assessment Brief  

Part A: 2000 word literature review and associated research design

Building on your research proposal your task is to develop a literature review and research design. The research design will summarise the research that you plan to undertake. Your review and design should include:

  1. Justification for your research based on a review of relevant and credible literature. You should demonstrate understanding of current debates in the literature, including relevant theoretical perspectives.
  2. A clear statement of a research questionand associated research objectives
  3. A research designthat is informed by an understanding of research approaches and methods, that establishes an appropriate timetable of activities, and addresses research ethics. It should be clearly linked to the research question, research objectives, and the literature review.

Note: the research design will be worth 30% of the marks available for this assignment task.

Part B: 3500 word research report

You are required to write up a report of the research project that you have undertaken. Your research report should include:

  1. An Summarise in no more than 1000 words, the purpose of the research, key literature and your research design.
  2. Presentation, justification and discussion of findings.The findings should be critically analysed especially with respect to reviewed literature. Linkages between your research question, research objectives and resultant findings should be demonstrated.
  3. Conclusions and recommendations.Provide justified conclusions and recommendations for change. Suggestions for future research are articulated. These should emerge naturally from / clearly link with the presentation and analysis of the findings
  4. Critical reflection on the research process.Critical reflection on the research process including proposed research design, implementation of the research design and data analysis. Recognition of limitations and specific and justified explanation of how they might have been overcome.

Part C: digital conference poster and 500 word abstract

Your final task is to prepare a conference poster and an accompanying abstract. The poster provides a creative visual medium through which you can present aspects of the research project which you found particularly interesting. The conference abstract is a summary of your research which highlights particular insights or arguments developed as a result of your research. It should include:

  1. A summaryof the research project
  2. An identification and explanation of key insightsgained as a result of the project. This may relate to the research strategies used; problems in implementation of the project; significant findings or recommendations for future practice or further research.
