Key Learning Outcomes

There is no one size fits all approach to managing people, however it is recognised that there needs to be an understanding of the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed by management in order to be an effective people manager.

Managers cannot face managing people alone and need the support of HR in order to underpin their performance management work on the front line. COVID 19 has certainly impacted the way Managers, HR and the workforce interact, and there are many issues faced by management when it comes to managing people that they may not have encountered before.

This assignment has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your achievement of the following module learning outcomes:

LO 1 Demonstrate an understanding of the knowledge, skills and behaviours to be an effective people manager

LO 2 Identify and evaluate key HR processes which underpin the performance management of people at work

LO 3 Demonstrate an understanding of contemporary issues facing line managers relating to people management

You are to write a report 2,000 word report (+/- 10%), with the use of real life company examples, supporting theory and appropriate academic sources, which offers insights into:

- What contemporary issues face line management when it comes to people management

- What knowledge, skills and behaviours are needed to be an effective people manager

- What HR process underpin and support management when it comes to effective performance management

Notes for Guidance

· The report should be written in a professionally presented report format

· You are expected to conclude with relevant and appropriate recommendations, summarising ways forward for management and the HR practices.

· An appendices is expected and must include supporting research documents or snippets of relevant information pertaining to your report content.

· A reference list AND bibliography is expected, with more than 10 citations in each list. These must demonstrate that the you have deployed a range of literature sources e.g. books; journals; articles; company documents; internet, web sites etc.

Your work will be assessed on the extent to which it demonstrates your achievement of the stated learning outcomes for this assignment (see above) and against other key criteria, as defined in the University’s institutional grading descriptors. If it is appropriate to the format of your assignment and your subject area, a proportion of your marks will also depend upon your use of academic referencing conventions.
