Overview of the Political Environment in Your Home Country

On successfully completing this module, students should be able to:

LO1: Demonstrate an understanding of the environmental aspects of international business in a variety of contexts, including socio-cultural, political, financial and economic.

C: Assessment Task

Write an essay which critically discusses how the internal political environment of your home country impacts on businesses (whether small or large business). This should be a general overview but you can give brief examples of businesses/ sectors where possible to justify the discussion.

D: Specific Criteria/Guidance

This is an essay and not a report and therefore MUST be written in an essay format with smoothly flowing critical discussion of the above question.

Introduction: Politics and government policies can impact on businesses positively or negatively in many ways. You should provide a brief background of the political environment of your home country in the introduction. This should be evidenced from literature. (20%)   

Main body (arguments): Your essay should construct a critical discussion of the political environment in your country and how it impacts on businesses. What approach the government takes in supporting businesses. What are the main issues and challenges for businesses within the country including some contemporary issues? Your critical discussion should be well supported with academic sources and industry examples and it is recommended to look at contemporary issues (60%)

Conclusions and recommendations: Your essay should draw some conclusions from the discussion and suggest some recommendations to the government regarding the most prominent issues in your country. (20%)

F: Submission Guidance

?Students should submit work before 12 noon on the deadline date via the appropriate ‘Turnitin submission’ link on the Moodle module page. Please check your email confirmation to ensure you have submitted to the correct place.

?Assessments should be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc and .docx), Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx. .pps and .ppsx), Excel (.xls and .xlsx) or PDF format (generated from the word-processing or presentation software you are using, not a scanned document. Do not upload Open Office documents (.odt, .odp).

?The file must be no larger than 40MB.

?The font size must be a minimum of point 12 Calibri (or equivalent).
