The table below provides broad guidance on the criteria that will be generally taken into account by tutors when marking assessments. There are 5 broad categories –Knowledge & Understanding, Structure, Argument & Analysis, Research and Presentation. Within those categories, the left hand column provides examples of the strengths that will gain a good mark and the right hand column provides examples of the weaknesses that will not! Please note that these are indicative and are not intended as a comprehensive or tick box check list of every feature that could be in a coursework submission. Please note also that the mark you are awarded reflects the tutor’s overall impression of the coursework submission, based on these criteria. In other words, while you may receive a high mark there will almost certainly still be areas of weakness. Equally, you may receive a low mark but there could still be strengths in your work. You should take note of the feedback, build on your strengths and learn from and minimize your weaknesses.

The International Trade Lawyer (ITL) is one of the leading professional journals for those involved in International Trade. It is published quarterly each year and each edition features a centre piece in-depth article on a matter deemed to be of interest to its educated and mostly professional audience.

You are a recently appointed reporter and column writer for this journal and the Editor has been impressed with the columns you have written for the last editions. In particular you have brought to the Journal, a professionalism based on your LLM experience in International Business law as well as your legal writing skills.  For those reasons, the Editor has asked you to write the feature article for the next edition. This is quite an honour and bodes well for your future career. The topic and title have already been chosen due to the fact of the high interest in it, not to mention the high degree of speculation about it. You are required to bring your research and analytical skills to the following topic.

What are the advantages and disadvantages for both UK and the EU of the various alternative future relations’ for international trade? You should consider the possible impact on UK, EU and world international trade.

Please note your readership is mixed, it consists not only of experienced International Traders and practising international trade lawyers but also those just generally interested in international trade from all levels of this discipline. You will need then to have all in mind when writing.

Given this is a somewhat speculative topic, you must nevertheless try to base your assessment on existing international trade norms and regulation.

The word limit for this assignment is 4,500 words (and permitted 10% de minimis). Do not exceed this as the Editor might reject it and ask you to re-submit it. So do a good job and who knows, an editorship may well be your next task!

No Abstract is needed for this.

The copy deadline for your submission is 23.59 Zürich time,  12th January 2020.
