Describe one application of Big Data for construction project management. i. Explain the difference between Big Data Analytics (BDA) and Big Data Engineering (BDE). ii. Mention which four characteristics are considered the 4V's of Big Data. (60%) b. Describe the characteristics of a: i. Work break down structure (WBS) ii. Cost breakdown structure (CBS) Provide an example for WBS and CBS (40%) 2 Building Information Modelling (BIM) is changing how buildings, infrastructure and utilities are planned, designed, built and managed. i. Discuss five uses of BIM in construction projects. ii. Explain the term 3D, 4D, 5D and 6D in the BIM context iii. Discuss three challenges for BIM implementation a. Last Planner System® (LPS) can significantly improve production performance. Using LPS involves five main stages. Illustrate and discuss these stages and its implementation in a construction company. (50%) b. What is your understanding of the term Industry 4.0 and smart device? Name three technologies related to smart devices and explain how they can be implemented for the delivery of construction projects? (50%) The ABC CONSTRUCTION COMPANY has just made the winning bid of £20.5 million to construct a new plant for a major manufacturer. The manufacturer needs the plant to go into operation within a year. Therefore, the contract includes the following provisions: • A penalty of £500,000 if ABC has not completed construction by the deadline 47 weeks from now. • To provide additional incentive for speedy construction, a bonus of £250,000 will be paid to ABC if the plant is completed within 40 weeks. ABC is assigning its best construction manager, David Perty, to this project to help ensure that it stays on schedule. He looks forward to the challenge of bringing the project in on schedule, and perhaps even finishing early. However, since he is doubtful that it will be feasible to finish within 40 weeks without incurring excessive costs, he has decided to focus his initial planning on meeting the deadline of 47 weeks. Mr. Perty will need to arrange for a number of crews to perform the various construction activities at different times. See Table for the activities. Display graphically using AON diagram (7 cell diagram) to better visualize the flow of the activities and calculate the earliest start time, earliest finish time, latest start time, latest finish time and slack. Also identify the critical path and the total duration of the project. (100%)
