Professional Obligations of Engineers towards Society

On successful completion of the assignment, you should be able to: Develop an understanding of the importance of ethical concepts in the personal development of an Engineer and its impact on the performance of an organization, as well as solve ethical situations that may arise during an Engineering career.The Brief Industrialisation and economic development have brought wealth and have transformed the way of life of societies in the last century. Although this has increased the standard in the way of life of most societies, it has also resulted in negative environmental impacts that risk the mere survival of the human species. Engineers have professional obligations to society to seek solutions to such problems by taking into consideration ethical and environmental principles when taking decisions about the use, development and application of technologies and procedures to solve them. Based on the following case, you are acting as an independent engineer consultant,(1) Identify professional bodies/agencies working for environmental safety. Advise at least five codes of conduct regarding environmental safety and explain what important aspects are discussed in those codes (2) Compile and write a formal technical report, using an appropriate format and Harvard referencing as indicated in the corresponding tutorial lecture. The report must recommend Professional bodies/agencies the most appropriate solution, from an ethical point of view, about what method of waste disposal may be the most appropriate based on the particular needs of the country (See case study below)
