This assessment consists of a 1500-word internship management project proposal, which constitutes 20% of the total module marks. The proposal will be submitted online via Moodle. The details of the assignment brief are given below. You are strongly argued to read the briefs carefully and in conjunction with the marking grid at the end of this document.

You are required to write a 1500-word proposal for an internship management project based on the internship project that has been agreed between you, your academic supervisor and workplace mentor/supervisor.

To start with, you will formulate or be given a topic for the Internship project, give background information about the organisation and the chosen topic, research question(s), aim and objectives, rationale and significance/importance of the topic and/or hypotheses where applicable to the organisation.

You should also provide an outline and rationale of the methodology you will use on the project and background literature/theory underpinning your research topic/question/hypotheses together with limitations. You should also provide a GANTT or that flowchart showing how you propose to proceed with the project.

You are required to submit a proposal to your supervisor before you proceed with your dissertation or internship project. This will be summatively assessed and it should be submitted via the submission link on moodle. The proposal should be submitted by the stipulated deadline.

The Proposal is a development of the initial Research Topic and will take the format of Background, Aims and Objectives, Rationale, Outline Literature Review, Outline Methodology, and Project Plan (GANTT chart or similar).

A clear and critical understanding of your chosen topic. The topic must be both worthwhile and relevant to your pathway as reflected by:

A working title – this may be changed later.

One or more clear research questions.

Explain the background to these questions in context, e.g. their relevance to your degree subject.

Aims – usually one or possibly two.

Objectives – usually 3 to 5 more specific that aims, and refine the aim(s) into smaller parts

The rationale for your chosen topic, i.e. the reasons why it is being carried out.

Provide proof of scholarship

Reflect your basic understanding of your topic

Reflect your intellectual ability to construct critical arguments based on your reading of the relevant literature.

The scope of the research

The choice of a research strategy

A basic understanding of methods and techniques to collect primary data

If a survey is to be used this should include how you intend to select your sample and distribute questionnaires.

What tools and techniques will be used to analyse the data.

An appreciation of your research’s feasibility within the time available to you. A Project Plan using a Gantt chart or similar graphical device showing activities to be undertaken at specific times.
