Designing a Distribution System or Logistics Network within a Supply Chain

Task

You are required to design a Distribution System or a Logistics Network within a Supply Chain of your choice. Please consider the following tasks:

a. Critically and thoroughly review and report the relevant literature and highlight the critical issues faced by supply chains; issues related to Distribution Systems and/or Logistics Networks, at both domestic and international level.

Please note that: your literature review should be well referenced. It should also highlight the gap in the literature and make suggestions for future research.
b. Design a Distribution System or a Logistics Network for the demand side of a supply chain of your choice. Refer to your literature review and address at least one of the major issues your literature review highlighted in Supply Chain Network design. Include a technical report with all the details of your deigned network, the formulations and models, and the solutions. Address and describe the theories, models and methods you have considered. Explain the modelling, the solution method and the final results in detail.
c. After designing your network, write a managerial report explaining and rationalising your suggested network to the top manager(s). Include a short presentation in this report.
Task specific guidance:
Part a:
You are expected to present a well reference review of literature on the specific topic of your choosing and highlight the main issues under the topic. Please consider the following points:
A well referenced state-state-of-the-art literature review on the subject,
Critical review and analysis of the available relevant literature,
Highlight the critical issues addressed in literature,
Review most recent and most relevant resources,
Part b:
You are expected to construct an original network of your choosing, formulate the relevant mathematical model and explain the method applied, solve the model and discuss the results. Please consider the following points:
Design an original network,
Clearly mention the type of supply chain the network is designed for,
Explain the models and methods supporting the deigned network,
Explain the supply chain issues the designed network addresses and the problems it solves, Refer back to your literature review when/where necessary,
Highlight the main elements of the network, their characteristics and limitations (components of the model built),
Identify the data set required for solving the designed model and present the date set you have used for soling your model,
Identify and apply the solution method(s) suitable for solving the designed model.
Note: you can include appendices if/when necessary
Part c:
A managerial report is expected, a brief all-encompassing report avoiding technical terms as much as possible and only interpreting the results and their applications from a managerial point of view. Please consider the following points:

Write a clear, well-structured and well-presented managerial report,
Include graphs and charts and tables to explain the designed network and all its important aspects and characteristics,
Try using a less technical language

The assessment task outlined above has been designed to address specific validated learning outcomes for this module. It is useful to keep in mind that these are the things you need to show in this piece of work.
On completion of this module, students will need to demonstrate:
1. Demonstrate a conceptual and critical understanding of planning and control theories, and modelling techniques used to support decision making in the field of supply chain planning and control.
2. Critically apply and evaluate supply chain planning and control tools to real life supply chain operational challenges
3. Critically evaluate a range of perspectives on the use of supply chain planning and control techniques
4. Demonstrate the ability to make sound judgements and communicate conclusions obtained from solving identified probems in a supply chain system clearly to specialist and non- specialist audiences
5. Obtain, manipulate, store and analyse data ready for application to operations and supply chain problems, design and build models appropriate to the evaluation of the supply chain at operational and strategic levels and have an appreciation of some of the relevant computer software.
