Designing and Implementing a Robust Network Infrastructure for qfixq.co.uk

Network Infrastructure Requirements

This coursework is designed to demonstrate the broad understanding and knowledge of the module, assessing and evaluating the student’s strength and level of analysis; divided into four learning outcomes. The coursework should be submitted as one document in a report format in final submission.

Network engineers need to design robust network in today’s complex network environment knowing that network is the backbone of any modern organisation. Network engineer role does not stop at designing the network, network support and troubleshooting is a process that takes the greatest percentage of time, thus using efficient troubleshooting techniques and documentation shortens overall troubleshooting time.

You are working as a network engineer in an IT company, you have been assigned to design, implement a network infrastructure for a client company qfixq.co.uk. The company consist of 3 department Finance, Sales and engineers’ users. Each and every department must not be able to access any other department.

The network consists of 3 Servers, for which web, email combined in one server, DNS, IoT combined server and one generic server, all servers are shared between all users. The distribution of workstation shown in table 1, describe the requirement of each department.

While discussion the requirement, the IT director hinted that there will be a need to implement a wireless network, and utilising IoT devices to monitor server rooms etc.

Table 1: workstation and server distribution and requirements

The IT director emphasised on scalability, redundancy and availability; hence you are required to provide a complete network infrastructure design and implementation, the company will be using private IP address 192.168.21.0/24 for the main network and private IP address for the wireless network.

Deliverable

Based on requirements given above, analyse and analyse and evaluate suitable network model, networking devices and protocols to design a network infrastructure featuring scalability, availability, your examination should include an analysis of switch and router redundancy protocols and detailed explanation of LAN redundancy concepts, the diagram of the network infrastructure, all devices (i.e. Switches, routers, cables, etc.) and IP addresses, subnet Ids, Broadcast Ids for each department justifying the use of address range and techniques used.

During te implementation stage you should apply effective judgement using a range of methods, protocols and techniques to fulfil the requirements including a complete switch, router and other network devices configuration, network configuration scripts and network simulation must be  attached in the appendices.

Evaluate and apply effective and creative thinking in unfamiliar contexts including self-evaluation proposing possible enhancement or improvement on security, reliability and performance.

Department of Information Technology

The assessment is concerned with your ability to communicate information about your network solution. You are required to:

  • prepare and display presentation materials that allow someone who has no prior knowledge of your project to quickly grasp a basic understanding of what has been achieved in your network solution.
  • respond to questions about any aspect of your project
  • You will be expected to provide evidence of the artefacts you have produced. If necessary, you should arrange to bring a suitable laptop to the venue.

Note: You should attach all the supporting documents as a separate file in the appendix section of your assignment. Without appropriate evidence(s) your assignment will not be marked.

  • A complete network simulation file must be attached to the written report
  • Presentation slides

Code Construct reusable and deployable Software systems, with appropriately verified functional coherence. Knowledge

Architect Refactor software systems in correspondence with relevant theories, practice, and discourse in the computing sector. None

Solve Synthesise knowledge of computing to address complex technical challenges. Application

Advocate Assess the legal, social, ethical, and professional issues in research and development contexts in correspondence with the relevant law, codes of conduct, and theory.

Research Defend an argument that addresses a research question(s), using appropriate primary and secondary sources and academic conventions.

Reflect Plan your post-graduation pathway, with reference to how you will overcome obstacles, and how you will build a personal brand that highlights your professional attributes.

Collaborate Produce work as part of a multidisciplinary team critically appraising practices, approaches, and tools; applying them to enhance development pipelines.

Application Evaluate existing artefacts to identify opportunities, emphasise unique features that would fill a gap, and suggest optimal routes to audiences.

Deliver Produce prototypes based on your own intellectual property that deliver distinguished experiences, justifying how and why it could engage, immerse an audience, and/or lead to innovation.

Repeating a Module

  1. A repeat is a second attempt at an assessment in the following academic session with marks capped at the Pass mark. Modules can only be repeated once.
  2. A student who has failed 2/3 of the modules (40 credits) in both Final/Late submission and in the Resubmission must retake the modules with full attendance and payment of the module fee
  3. Repeating students must be reassessed in all the elements of the failed module(s). A repeating student should not be treated any differently to those students completing the module for the first time, in terms of the deadlines given and the assessments provided.
  4. The fees for repeating students must be charged pro-rata to the credit value of the module(s) concerned
  5. A student who fails at the second attempt must leave the programme and must not be permitted to reenrol on a failed programme or module. Department of Information Technology Page 8 of 8
  6. Good practice
  7. Make backup of your work in different media (hard disk, memory stick, etc.) to avoid distress due to loss or damage of your original copy.
  8. Extension and Late Submission
  9. If you need an extension for a valid reason, you must request one using an Exceptional Extenuating Circumstances (EEC) form available from the Examination Office and ICON VLE. Please note that the tutors do not have the authority to extend the coursework deadlines and therefore do not ask them to award a coursework extension. The completed form must be accompanied by evidence such as a medical certificate in the event of you being sick, and should be submitted to the Examination Office.
  10. Late submission will be accepted and marked according to the College procedure. It should be noted that late submission may not be graded for Merit and Distinction.
  11. All late coursework must be submitted to the Late submission point into the unit (not to the Tutor) in the ICON VLE. A student is allowed to submit only once and that is also treated as the final submission.
