This handbook is designed to give you an outline of the teaching schedule, assessment details, and course resources. Please note the lectures constitute only a small percentage of the time required for successful completion of the module. You should consider your lectures as a starting point in your learning journey and allow sufficient time for reading and writing – particularly reading – over and above the lectures when you plan your weekly activities.

On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:

This module focuses upon developing learners’ skills so that they can successfully pursue their higher education. Skills such as how to use library and electronic resources, planning, note taking, building a bibliography, and avoiding plagiarism will be explored.

Where coursework is graded as pass/fail, if you submit your coursework late, we will award a fail mark.If you submit coursework after the given deadline, you may also ask that we excuse your lateness. We will consider such requests in accordance with the Extenuating Circumstances Policy and Procedure. The tests we will use are: a. your late submission was for a good reason, and you could not reasonably have asked for an extension before the deadline.

In any event, coursework submitted more than five days after the original deadline, or any agreed extension, will not be marked, and will be counted as a failure. This helps us to keep track of all the work that has to be marked and returned to students

The course is composed of interactive lectures that include student-led discussions to facilitate a deeper level of learning. A key aim of this module is to provide you with a broad overview of the sociology of everyday life.

According to the Taught Course Academic Regulations you have a responsibility to engage fully with designated learning activities of programmes and modules as required. As such, your attendance is expected at all timetabled sessions and other meetings, including those required for effective teamwork.
