Research Project on Obesity in Teenagers in the UK

Identifying Key Words for the Project

You will work on this document in class during the first few weeks of the semester, where each step will be explained. Before you submit your project proposal your project supervisor will review this document and help you to improve and develop your ideas further.  It is really important that you attend your project supervision, so that you can benefit from this support.

Complete the following sections:

1.Title : Obesity in teenagers in UK

2.Search Leeds Trinity E Library for two research papers or reports on your  topic and insert the full Harvard reference for each paper below:

These need to be research peer review papers, or reports which you can access via the Leeds Trinity E Library. You are looking for papers/reports which have been published in the last few years, or are benchmark publications (papers or reports which other papers keep citing over and again) in the field.

3a. Identify the five key (important) words relating to your project:

Clues as to your key words lie in the title (research question) and what you have discovered from reading your two research papers.

In the above example in section 1 relating to suicide amongst 20-30 year old men, the key words are the risk factors which in the case of suicide are the following; social isolation, substance misuse, history of broken relationships, sexual abuse, unemployment and mental illness.

3b. Write 60-70 words for each key word explaining why they are relevant to your project.

Key word one: Overweight

Key word two: Diet

Key word three: Exercise

Key word four: Income

Key word five: Ethnicity

Note-your key words will form your writing focus for your project.

Why is your research project worth doing?

How will your findings advance the field you have chosen to research?

List two reasons why you think your study is worth doing.

The most common reasons we conduct projects is to improve patient outcomes (e.g. which treatments work and which do not), attract funding and resources, improve knowledge amongst healthcare providers, carers and society and improve quality of life of the patient, or client.

In the above example provided, relating to the risk factors which make men in the 20-30 year age group more vulnerable to suicide, the project would be worth doing because if we can identify men at risk of suicide, then we can have measures in place to try and prevent it.

(Student’s Note to the expart: I found this two article from EBSCO as I had to do this on class. The articles should be in recent years.

I need the partial work in 3 steps because I need to discuss or show the progress of my work to the teacher as it is a requirement.

To write a 2500-word project report which identifies and addresses the needs, problems and opportunities of a given situation.

There are 3 milestones:

To submit a proposal for the project in order that the project supervisor can approve the topic and provide formative feedback.

To provide an interim of report of progress to the project supervisor.

To submit the final written report of 2500 words (+ or – 10%) for summative assessment.

1.Project Plan (500 words): by the week 2 (Please use the template as specified below and submit it to your tutor for approval before uploading it on Moodle.

Proposal Structure

  • Project Title: Obesity in teenagers in UK
  • Background to topic
  • Reason for choosing this topic
