On 14^th February, 2018 a British Airways engineer died in Heathrow airport due to vehicle collision between two cars in the runway (BBC News 2020). Just after 6:00 GMT the incident took place which was a very unfortunate news for the day. The man was in his forties and suffered a cardiac arrest after the accident and even after several attempts to save him the man unfortunately died. The man took his last breath on his way to the hospital and also another man has been admitted to the hospital for broken shoulder in the incident (BBC News 2020). After that incident almost 20 British airways was delayed which was a major setback for the transportation. Although the flight was detained yet the functioning of the airport was running smoothly. In one of the planes the passengers had to disembark the plane owing to the mishap which has occurred at that time. After the incident the health and security Executive was informed by the airport and no arrests were made after the incident and the investigation was going on (BBC News 2020).

The main problems which was faced during the event was the delayed transport. Being one of the major airport of the world the traffic flow in the airport is huge and a lot of people use the airport for their transport. The delayed flight made the passengers restless and many of them complained about the delayed flight. The problems which might be faced by the airport in the future is about the security of the airport and whether the staffs are safe working in the airport. The staffs might question the safety which is being provided to them by the airport. The death of the senior employee showed that the airport drivers were not adequately trained and the life which was lost due their recklessness might be landing the airport in serious problems. After the conduction of the investigations it will be seen whether the airport is at fault or not if the airport would be found guilty then they might have to face some penalty.

The immediate factors which needed to be taken into account by the airport is to maintain the chaos among the passengers and help them understand the situation and the main reason due to which the flights have been delayed. The airport also needs to cooperate fully with the police as well as the journalists in answering their questions. The investigation of the incident needs to be taken in a proper manner. The crisis management team of the airport must come into work in that moment and take the necessary steps which will be ensuring that the incident will be handled in a proper way (Taylor and Cotter 2016). The Airport safety managers of the airport must assess the situation properly and must be able to evaluate the various ways by the help of which this problems might be avoided in the future. The main reason due to which this incident might have happened is mainly due to reason that the airport authority did not do their risk management procedures correctly.

Management Style Used

The emergency medical services arrived at the scene during the incident and they made sure that they will be taking the circumstances under control. However on the way to the hospital the man died. The emergency medical services which was present in the airport was aimed in providing various medical services which is needed for people who face such unforeseen circumstances (You and Han 2013). By the help of coordinate planning and also having connection with the response and recovery team the airport management works towards aiding victims under difficult situations. The airport operator along with the various hospital and fire management ensures that if any kind of problem happens in the airport terminal or in the runway then a quick response will be given to the problem and the individuals who are affected by the incident will be helped immediately.

The Federal aviation administration which has been instilled in the airport work towards talking care of the various functioning of the airport regarding the health and safety of the people who are present in the airport. The airport staffs must be given the feeling that they are safe in the working environment and they are given ample attention regarding their health and safety. During the mishap the passengers in the airport were in chaos as their flight were delayed and they did not like the fact that they will not be reaching their destination in time. Terminal management has been very much helpful in that situation as the people did not make any hassle in that situation. The terminal management took the situation under control and also helped the passengers in settling down. The situation was described to the passengers in a proper way by the terminal management of the airport and they have controlled the chaos in a very proper manner.

For resolving the situation the main aim of the airport was to ensure that the victim would be transported to the hospital as quick as possible. It was evident from the functioning of the airport is that they were be able to provide quick response under difficult and emergency circumstances. The airport security system was very responsive to the situation. However the mishap which has happened due to bad driving by the two drivers caused the problem so investigation will be taking place whether they are guilty of the incident or not (Quilty 2018). The main reason which has been attributed in this situation is that the airport should have been much safer and maintain its protocols which would have ensured the health and safety of the people. The main reason due to which the airport is undergoing such investigation is owing to the fact that the incident has been occurred due to rash driving inside the airport in the runway. One of the official of the airport who was attending the press conference has said the airport has been deeply saddened by the mishap and their condolences goes to the family and they will be ensuring that the family of the deceased will be helped in every possible way to get over this incident. The health and safety executive of the airport has stated that so far no arrest has been made by the police and they are awaiting proper investigation to be taken place (Hawley, Howard, Koelle and Saxton 2013).

Measures Needed

The airport security staffs have been very much saddened by this incident and the airport needs to take steps to ensure that they are given the proper security in the future. If the employees are not given enough security in the workplace then it will be going against human rights and there are increased chances that the airport will be losing staffs in huge numbers in the future.

The secretary of state for transport along with the civil aviation society are responsible for taking the various decisions by the help of which the various serious incidents in the airport are taken care of. In this case the decisions which will be taken by these two major regulatory bodies will be helping the airport in assessing the damage which has been done to the airport image and security (Kanki 2019). The main reason due to which the mishap has happened in the runaway is because of the various missteps which has been taken by the airport securities and the employees. The health and the safety of the staffs in the airport are at risk at present and the airport needs to work on it and the various steps which needs to be implemented in the airport will be discussed by the two main regulatory bodies of the country (Hancock 2017). The main aim of the airport must be to make a proper risk assessment which will be ensuring that the mishap like this does not happen in the future. The existing employees of the airport must be given proper training by the help of which the people will be able to maintain a safe workplace condition.

The secretary of state is responsible for the various steps which ensures that the airport is encouraged enough to bring improvement in its management and functions on a regular basis. The main reason due to which the decision of the secretary of state might clash with the decision which will be taken by the airport regarding the health and safety of the people is because the current aim of the airport is to ensure that the functioning of the airport will be going to place kike it was before (Flin and O'Connor 2017). Whereas the Secretary of state will be trying to impose the various changes which needs to be brought about in the functioning of the airport which will be prioritizing the health and safety of the staffs who are working in the airport.

Evaluation

The incident which has happened will be attracting a lot of attention as it is a major airport and a lot of flights have been delayed which has angered a lot attention. A lot of newspapers and articles will be published on this fact and the people will be coming to know of this incident and will be thinking bout how unsafe the condition of the airport is at present (McMains and Mullins 2014). The decision which will be taken by the manager regarding this issue will be very much dependent on the various aeronautical laws which will be covering the incident which has happened in the airport premises.

The CAP 168 deals with the various licensing of the aerodromes and also the health and safety of the people who are associated with the airport as well (Publicapps.caa.co.uk 2020). This act might be coming into play in making the decisions which will be reciprocating the various steps which needs to be taken against the mishap of the airport as well as also determining the various steps which needs to be taken into the future (Publicapps.caa.co.uk 2020).

The following data shows how much the transport in the airport has been affected by the mishap which has happened in the airport premises. The main reason due to which the airport officials had to be aware of the situation and have taken the various precautions is because of the huge number of passengers which use the airport for their transportation. Even the passengers might not feel safe in the airport and might try to avoid it which will put huge effect on the reputation of the company.

The action which has been taken by the airport for solving the issue has been very good and the decisions which has been taken by the officials regarding the mishap has been very much effective. The stranded passengers have been controlled by the government in a very proper manner and the people have been seen to be content by the reply which has been given by the airport officials. The connection which has been seen between the airport and the various hospitals have shown that the airport has been ready to tackle in this kind of emergency situations. Although the man could not have been saved even after taking so much precaution in such a short time. The airport officials has been very much effective in solving the problem and also assessing the problem which might occur due to this event. In the present scenario it can be said that the airport has done its work in a very effective manner and the people have been seen to cooperate with the airport staffs and management. The work of the airport can be said to be super effective in solving these kind of emergency situation. The main problem which might be faced by the airport in the future is that the healthy and the safety of the people must be taken into account by the airport and they must help them in understanding the fact that they are safe in the working environment of the airport.
