Scenario 

You currently work as an assistant to the Human Resource Manager in an organisation of your choice.Pick any organisation in which you might like to work when you finish your course at OBC but make sure that you get it approved by your Tutor .  The HR Manager wants you to write a report about the relationship between organisational culture, staff motivation and staff performance.  The purpose of your report will be to investigate the influence that organisational culture, politics, power and motivation have upon behaviour and performance of staff.  You are also asked to provide some recommendations on what organisations can do to improve the success of their team. 
 
Instructions

The report should cover the following: 

• A brief background of the organisation of your choice and any issues they are facing in terms of staff behaviour and performance. 

• The key concepts of organisational behaviour such as culture, politics, power and motivation.  

• Identify how the culture of the organisation is or is not aligned to different theoretical models of culture within organisation e.g., Hofstede’s dimensions of culture theory and application, or the principles of Network theory and Systems theory. 

• Critically evaluate how power, culture and politics impact on the behaviour and performance of individuals in the organisation, as well as how they affect the team as a whole. 

• Evaluate and apply different content and process motivational theories to staff behaviour in your organisation.   

• Make sure that you provide recommendations for your chosen organisation. You will need to justify your recommendations with evidence from your reading about the company and how culture, politics, power and motivation can enable teams to succeed. 


Submission Format – Assignment Activity One (Individual Report)

You will need to provide a written formal report to the Human Resource Manager.  You need to provide a completed cover page with clear indication of the unit number and title, the relevant task being addressed, your name and registration number. The report should be written in a concise, formal academic style using single spacing and font size 12. You are required to make use of headings, paragraphs and subheadings as appropriate.  Any sources you draw information from should be referenced using the Harvard referencing system. The recommended word limit is anything from 1000 – 1500 words.  This does not include any additional documents you may wish to add as an appendix. You may include charts and diagrams in the main report (especially those you have drawn yourself).  You will not be penalised if you exceed the word limit.

9. Explain what makes an effective team as opposed to an ineffective team.

10. Analyse relevant team and group development theories to support the development of cooperation within effective teams.
