Guidelines and Requirements for TMA

You will find information about TMAs in the ‘Assessment’ area of the website. Please read that information before beginning work on this TMA.

The marks allocated to each part of each question are indicated in brackets in the margin.

You may use Maxima to check answers, but it should not be used otherwise to answer TMA questions except where explicitly indicated.

TMA answers must show full working to attract full marks.

In this TMA you are expected to present your solutions neatly, using good mathematical style. This includes:

• using correct mathematical notation

• defining any significant symbols that you introduce

• giving references for any formulas that you use from the module text

• including comments and explanations within your mathematics

• explicitly stating results and conclusions, giving answers to an

appropriate degree of accuracy and interpreting answers in the context of the question

• neatly drawing diagrams and graphs.

As these features are seen as being essential to complementing your mathematical skills, the final question of this TMA allocates 5 marks to the way you present your solutions.
