What am I required to do in this assignment?

The purpose of this assignment  is  to increase your understanding of the causes of conflict  within the family business,the impact of conflict on the family and the busines  and the approaches that can be taken to reducing the negative impact of the conflict.

The purpose of this assignment  is  to increase your understanding of the causes of conflict  within the family business,the impact of conflict on the family and the busines  and the approaches that can be taken to reducing the negative impact of the conflict.

This assignment will consist of two stages; A group exercise and the production  of an individual reflective report.

 

Preparation for acting a typical conflct issue within a family business During this stage you will work with a group of four to five students. You will.

Identify and agree a typical conflict situation that can arise in a family business one which relates to the overlap between the family and the business or to ownership and sucession or to relationships between siblings,cousins of fathers and children.

Identify typical behaviours  goals ,aspirations and fears that individual might exhibilt in this case study. 

Use this analysis to write and act out a short play which outlines this scenario. Each member of the group should playing a role. One member of the group to summarise the issue at the end and reply to questions from other members of the semester group.

All course members will need to watch the plays acted out by all groups in their semester group.

 

These plays will be acted out live in front of their seminar group if we are back to face to face teaching, Otherwise they will be acted out live in Blackboard Collaborate Ultra. 

      
Completion of Individual  reflective report

In the invidual report  you will reflect on what you have learnt in relation to the sources of  conflict within the family business and the approaches that can be used to reduce to turn conflict into a positive force.
This assignment to be completed by week 8  of the semester

 

What do I need to do to pass?
Threshold criteria i.e. achievement of the learning outcome at the pass/fail boundary

By achieving an overall mark of 40% and producing a report withincdes evidence of the following criteria 

The degree to which you have taken an active role in the preparation for and acting out of the play  Max  15%
The degree to which you demonstrate an understanding of the issue that formed the basis for your groups play  Max  15%
The degree to which you demonstrate an understanding of  the underlying  causes of conflict

Within a family businessThis with reference to relevant concepts and models drawn from the literature Max   20%

The degree to which you have identified and evaluated potential solutions to reducing  the level of conflect and enhancing its positive impact within the situation portrayed in your groups play and the overall quality of the report  Max   35%

The degree to which you can argue how this exercise has impacted on your perception of the family business Max  15%

How do I produce high quality work that merits a 70% or above grade? 

By ensuring that you produce a balanced reflective piece of work which takes account of  the distribution of marks within the above outline .

How does the assignment relate to work being done during the module ?

 

This assessment will be specifically related to the content being studied in the first  part of this semester. The student activity in small groups each acting out their own play will be  the summative assignment.

Discuss and feedback taking part at the end of each play 

How will I receive formative feedback for this assignment?

You will receive verbal feed back from peers and staff after completion of play.
You will then receive written feedback from tutor after completion of the reflective essay.
