There is no single recommended textbook for this module due to the disparate range of aspects covered. You are required (and expected) to keep up with suggested reading – and also read beyond the suggested reading.
This module is assessed via a report due for submission by 4th January 2021 at 1pm. Full details of this assignment are located at the end of this handbook.
Delivery – this module will be delivered fully online. Further details will be provided during week 1 lecture. Key points :-
·All lectures will be pre-recorded and available on moodle. You should watch these prior to the appropriate tutorial for that week.
·There will also be a timetabled lecture every week. You may decide to watch the pre-recorded lecture at this time. During these timetabled slots, I intend to pause the pre-recorded lecture at various points to add in extra comments etc. Consider it an “added value” lecture!
·Prior to the tutorial you are FULLY EXPECTED to have spent time considering the tutorial questions, and to carry out any suggested or relevant further reading. It is RECOMMENDED that you spend time discussing the tutorial questions in pairs or small groups prior to the tutorial
·It is important that you take an ACTIVE role in the online tutorials. These provide an opportunity to further discuss points, debates, ideas and questions raised by your understanding of the tutorial questions and related reading. The role of the tutor is these sessions is to facilitate discussion and clarify areas where you are unsure.
·Each week there will also be a forum available on moodle. I STRONGLY urge you to engage with each other on this forum. I will monitor it, and will aim to answer questions, give clarity etc. However, the main role of the forum is to encourage debate and thought from YOU!
“Plagiarism is the practice of presenting the thoughts, writings or other output of another or others as original, without acknowledgement of their source(s). All material used to support a piece of work, whether a printed publication or from electronic media, should be appropriately identified and referenced and should not normally be copied directly unless as an acknowledged quote. Text translated into the words of the individual student should in all cases acknowledge the source.”
Before submitting assignments, you should check through it to ensure that:
·all material identified as originally from a previously published source has been properly attributed by the inclusion of an appropriate citation in the text;
·direct quotations are marked as such (using “quotation marks” at the beginning and end of the selected text), and
·full details of the reference citations have been included in the Reference List (in RGU Harvard format).
Everything in the main body of text, including headings, sub-headings, citations and direct quotes, is included in the word count.
Anything you consider essential for your marker to read should be in the main body of text. Anything that is supplementary or supporting material should be in the appendices. Regarding tables in the main body of text:
·A table containing mainly numeric content would not be considered part of the word count.
·A table containing mainly text content would be considered part of the word count.
