The intended learning outcomes are that on completion of this module students should be able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the key concepts and principles of international trade law and a critical appreciation of the commercial context in which it operates.
2. Develop a critical understanding of the global nature of international trade law and the role of international organizations in its development.
3. Critically evaluate the issues examined and identify areas in need of reform, suggesting how such reform may be achieved where appropriate.
4. Understand the relationships involved in international trade transactions and the rights and responsibilities of the parties.

Critically evaluate the nature of a CIF contract – is it a contract for the sale of documents or for the sale of goods. Discuss in relation with international trade law. (approx. 2000 words)

Write a case note on any one international trade law case that you have studied on this module. Your case note should cite authority as appropriate; it should explain the facts and decision in the case and include a commentary on the issues raised in the case and the way in which the law was applied by the Court (2000 words).

All work submitted after the submission deadline without a valid and approved reason (see below) will be given a mark of zero.

The University wants you to do your best. However we know that sometimes events happen which mean that you can’t submit your coursework by the deadline – these events should be beyond your control and not easy to predict. If this happens, you can apply for an extension to your deadline for up to two weeks, or if you need longer, you can apply for a deferral, which takes you to the next assessment period (for example, to the resit period following the main Assessment Boards).
