Sustainability Impacts of Royal Albert Dockland Development

Introduction and background of the development project

6. Examine how the promotion of safe working and ethical practices and the setting of standards may be achieved.

7. Apply a professional Code of Conduct to own practice.

8. Critically reflect on own working relationships using teamwork and leadership skills, recognising and respecting different perspectives (S)

9. Evaluate the cultural, environmental, business context of a chosen organisation, appraising what is prized by employers in this area and own plans to adopt this identity (S)

10. Research and critically evaluate the graduate job market and behaviours prized by employers, distinguishing between different Industry sectors and engage in the requirements of recruitment and selection, and consider your experience of that process (S)

Social, economic and environmental considerations in project development (40%)-

The Royal Albert Dockland in East of London is being transformed into London’s third business and financial district with about £2billion development programme/project, comprising the construction of office buildings, residential homes, commercial and retails properties, leisure and community space facilities. The existing infrastructure such as public transport, pedestrian and cycle routes will also be improved while new ones developed as part of the development programme. The development programme which is covering an estimated area of about 5 million square feet is expected to regenerate the entire area when completed. In no more than 2500 words, write a report and discuss clearly, the social, economic and environmental sustainability impacts of the development programme/project on the area of East London.

The report should include the following information:

• Introduction and background of the development project.

• The social sustainability benefits and disadvantages of the project.

• The economic sustainability benefits and disadvantages of the project.

• The environmental sustainability benefits and disadvantages of the project.

i) You have been appointed as a team leader in your construction engineering department. Your company has taken five (5) students from the UEL on their internship programme and you have been asked to mentor these students to develop their professional knowledge, skills and attitude. Provide a 500 words reflection on:

a) How you have supported the mentees to carry out their day-to-day activities/studies. 5 marks

b) How you have professionally transferred knowledge to mentees through effective communication. 5 marks

c) The challenges you have encountered and how you dealt with them professionally. 10 marks

d) What professional skills you have developed from the mentoring process.

i)You are also required to provide (in appendix) a record of activities you have carried out with the mentees and ensure that the record is kept up to date. This should include, evidence of your face-to-face meetings, email correspondence.

ii) Produce a suitable career development plan showing how you would prepare yourself for employment and career progression in your field at a professional level.
