Task 1: Choosing a Charitable Cause and Event Planning

By successful completion of the module, you will be able to demonstrate:

LO2: Your ability to communicate verbally in business including presentations skills and influencing skills.

This assessment requires you to make an individual 5 to maximum 8- minute presentation, which will be presented to a panel.

Task 1:

Referring to your proposal for a charitable cause project (classroom activities), decide

·what charitable cause is of the greatest value to you,

·and think of an event you could organise with a group of friends or volunteers in order to raise funds in support of the project.  

You will have to justify your choice of charity and think about all the details of the event. Take notes as you proceed with your research. To complete your work, you will reflect on what went well and what you found challenging, e.g. how you made your choices, how you communicated with your tutor, etc., Please use Kolb’s Reflective Cycle.

Task 2:

Having decided on the charitable cause project/event, you will now create your individual presentation. You will use the information developed earlier and create your slides. You will pitch the proposal to your management.

In your 5-8-minute individual presentation, you are expected to:

·present your charitable cause project/event,

·explain why your proposal would be of value to management and society,

oinclude business aspects, i.e. budgeting, targeted funding to be raised

·and provide a reflection on what went well and what you found challenging when working on the project using Kolb’s Reflective Cycle.

Your grading will be based on the effectiveness of your presentation, your influencing and reflection skills.

The individual presentation will be marked according to the following criteria:

·Knowledge and Understanding (20%): Show knowledge and understanding of topic/ business issue to be discussed.

·Presentation skills (40%): Communicate effectively showing influencing skills, apply logical structure and demonstrate appropriate use of visual aids.

·Reflection & Contextualisation (20%): Relate presentation to your experience, refer to a reflective framework.

·Time management (10%): Deliver presentation effectively within allocated time.

Assignment Structure: PowerPoint Presentation:

·This should clearly follow the cover page template in your Module Handbook: Your Student ID, Student Name, Module Name and Code, Assignment Name and Number and the Word Count.

·Outline the content of the presentation.

·Briefly provide the background to and an overview of the charitable cause project/event.

Main Body (3-4 Slides)

·Present your charitable project idea

·Explain why you have chosen this charitable cause.

·Explain how your event will work, give appropriate details. E.g. people involved, time/ place of the event, business aspects, i.e. budgeting and targeted funding to be raised.

·Explain why your charitable cause project would be of value to management and society.

Conclusion (1 Slide)

·Summarise your points justifying why your cause is worth rising awareness and funds.

Reflection (1-2 Slides)

·Reflect on how you have worked on the project using Kolb’s reflective framework

·Provide examples to demonstrate your points and map the different skills discussed in your tutorials.

Identify the lessons learnt and highlight any area for potential improvement.
