The coursework is designed to assess student’s ability to interpret and apply key HRM concepts and theories to organisations. Students must identify and evaluate approaches to people management, taking into consideration their learning throughout the module as well as independent research.
The assignment will constitute a 2000 word written submission offering critical analysis and evaluation. Please note, your assignment must demonstrate a clear emphasis on international organisations and/or an international context. This includes not only international research but also examples drawn from an international context.
Your assignment 1 topic is on:
Cultivating a positive organisational culture in international organisations: the role of managers and leaders in success and failure
• Students will be expected to conduct a literature review and analysis around the chosen topic and display clear evidence of extensive research into organisation case examples.
• Students are asked to identify issues, challenges, approaches and best practice initiatives and their impact, where relevant
• It is expected that in completing the assignment students will make extensive reference to the relevant literature; any references cited must be included in a reference list at the end of the assignment, and the quality reading material will be evaluated in the assessment of the assignment.
• It is also expected that students will make extensive use of internet sources in researching information on organisation case examples and the business environment.
Submission date: No later than Sunday 13th December 2020 by 11:59pm in Week 11 (via Assignment link in BBL). Feedback will normally be provided to each student within two weeks of the submission.
Standard Assessment Guidance
The following guidance is applicable to all coursework items.
1) Marks are awarded for content, quality of discussion and effective use of referencing. Higher marks will also be awarded to students who provide strong evidence of analysis and critical evaluation of the various concepts and techniques identified and their application to real world situations.
2) Work should include references to journal articles and other relevant publications, and should be properly laid out using the UUBS Harvard system of referencing. See the reading list in this module handbook to see how references should be cited. More detailed guidance is available in the ‘Guide to Referencing in the Harvard Style’. We encourage you to avail of the Academic Support via the Library’s Support Service, further details in the Library Support Services Section.
3) Marks will be deducted for incomplete or inaccurate referencing.
4) Students may make multiple submissions in advance of the due date to receive feedback via Turnitin on their academic writing style (similarity score) and any potential plagiarism issues. A similarity score of less than 20% is acceptable.
Students will write up a 1000 word reflection about how they have developed individual managerial skills and learning, to date, and future ideas and plans for further personal and professional development relevant to this role.The objective of this reflective writing process is to consider the part that reflection plays in learning and understanding and the importance of reflection to professionals. Students are aiming to achieve levels of reflection so as to produce greater depths of understanding.
