This assignment is based on a fictitious case study that presents students with an IT project scenario. You must take the role of Project Manager and are required to analyse the case study, research the best approach to managing it and develop the following 5 items in portfolio elements of project planning documentation to be submitted as a single, individual report.
The University of West London is trying to use a new booking system for their student canteen for the Post COVID situation. They need to have a system which student can access via an app for Android and Apple iOS. This app should help students to order and pay for the food. Daily offers as part of the marketing material should be accessible via this app. Students should be able to set the collection time for their food, and the system sends them a reminder. Updating the daily menu should be easy for the employees.
University call for proposals from university students to select the best project which can fit into their budget and business strategies. University has restricted the cost to up to 20,000 pounds and Project Period to 4 months, including the planning period.
You were asked to produce a portfolio for your idea which includes all the following sub-tasks elements shown as items (1) to (5) below. You must read all the sub-tasks very carefully before you begin. Note: All tasks must be attempted, incomplete submissions will be penalised.
Credit will be given for suitable brevity (i.e. adhering to the suggested word counts), but very short responses and/or overly lengthy responses may be penalised by the examiners.
Credit will also be given to clarity of ideas and clear English language expression. Try to avoid the use of jargon for its own sake. Rather, do try to write as if, for a fully computer/business literate/Educated (e.g. to MBA level) Senior IT Manager, not merely to an Academic audience.
Thus, aim to define all terms used. (If necessary, you can include a brief “Definition of Terms” section using a brief Appendix A of max. one page. This Appendix (A), will be in addition to any max. word limits given below.)
Similarly, credit will be given for appropriate referencing of suitable external sources to reflect your “wider” scholarly reading. Take special care so as to ensure that all your citations are both, fully relevant and fully up-to-date (i.e. from reputable sources, such as IEEE/BCS/IET etc. Journals or Conference Papers, or from other suitable (CUP/Oxford Press. etc.) Book Monographs, and published within the past 5-7 years (max.) No older sources to be used please.
It is suggested that you give not more than 12-15 (max.) citations in support of all the sub-tasks given below. Use a Selected References/Bibliography section (not included in the overall word-count), to fully cite any references that you may choose to use. Be sure to fully embed all references into the main body of your text, using the CiteThemRight Harvard method of Referencing (see the library pages). Do not use Footnotes please.
It would be best if you also cover the project management methodology (Agile, PRINCE2, Waterfall, etc) you have selected and justify your decision with the benefits and advantages of the approach or disadvantages of other approaches for this project.
