Acting in the role of a consultant, you are required to submit a report that is based on the following scenario.
Choose a particular sector of your choice (e.g. entertainment, finance, manufacturing, news/information, travel, advertising, health services, marketing, education and training etc). Where the sector is quite diverse, you can focus on a particular area within that sector. For example, in the entertainment sector you might focus on games or music.
You are employed by a company within your chosen sector that is considering investing in mobile business as a means of expanding their market, generating revenue and providing new opportunities.
Before the company actually embarks on its mobile business venture, they have employed you to produce an initial report into mobile business and the role it plays within the sector in terms of applications, technologies, opportunities, potential problems and case study examples.
Your report should address the following areas:
An introduction to your chosen sector in terms of how the area has evolved and developed within the mobile area and what the major milestones and turning points have been in its evolution and development. (5 Marks)
A critical investigation and analysis of specific mobile technologies and services within your chosen sector, who the stakeholders are in the mobile ‘ecosystem/environment’, what the intended business benefits are and any limitations and problems. (20 Marks)
A critical investigation into specific case studies and examples of real-world companies within your chosen sector who have adopted m-business technologies, applications and services and what they have gained from this. In addition, any issues such as why specific companies may have succeeded or struggled to survive in this area should be highlighted. (15 Marks)
Throughout your report you should demonstrate a that you have undertaken in-depth secondary research and explored relevant resources (e.g. papers, journal articles, newspaper articles, books, reports, web sites) and undertaken in-depth critical analysis in the production of the formal report.
Throughout the report you must justify the points that you make, rather than making unsubstantiated generalised statements. Your report layout and structure must be of as high standard with a cover page, executive summary, table of contents, appropriate headings and subheadings, page numbers, appropriately labelled figures and tables, a full list of references and appendices.
As a rough guide, the report should be at least 3000-3500 words in length (you can go over the word limit if you wish). Please remember the number of words produced is not directly proportional to the number of marks gained.
