LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon the successful completion of this module, the student should be able to demonstrate the ability to:

1. Identify and critically evaluate the appropriateness and limitations of the main project management methodologies

2. Apply concepts and principles of project management to a real-world scenario and in so doing be able to make a successful contribution to any project environment.

Project Management Plan

You have been assigned as a project manager; with a budget of £50,000 to undertake a project of your choice. The duration of the project will be 6 months. You are expected to critically consider the relevant aspects in developing a coherent PROJECT MANAGEMENT PLAN that will address stakeholders’ concerns; risks; time; cost and benefits realisation; and project execution challenges.

This section details the assessment criteria. The extent to which these are demonstrated by you determines your mark. The marks available for each criterion are shown. Lecturers will use the space provided to comment on the achievement of the task(s), including those areas in which you have performed well and areas that would benefit from development/improvement.

1. Demonstrate the ability to identify, negotiate and agree a suitable project, or a series of identifiable tasks, or alternatively a project oriented task, with your tutor.

2. Produce a detailed ‘Project Management Plan’ (PMP) demonstrating an overview of PRINCE 2, 50 with regard to the use of a PMP to provide a framework approach to the overview of a project.

3. Adopt a structured and concise approach. Credit will be given for well presented, logical 25 documentation. Your PMP document should be of approximately 2,500 words or equivalent.
