In the main body of your submission you must give credit to authors on whose research and ideas your work is based. Append to your submission a reference list that indicates the books, articles, etc. that you have used, cited or quoted in order to complete this assessment.
LO1 Evaluate the appropriate use of contemporary technologies to improve workplace efficiency and employability. LO2 Identify and effectively evaluate a range of information sources. LO3 Show competence in workplace data handling
• Produce a script and PowerPoint presentation applying for a research grant from UKTI to pay for further experiments into developing grit in students.
• To make your presentation pass the CRAAP test use your DIKW knowledge and referencing skills so that your presentation stands on the shoulders of giants.
• To demonstrate your digital skills, you will make this report using a combination of PowerPoint and Word. First you will make slides with notes written below them. These notes will amount to 2000 words in total. It is advised you make ABOUT 10 slides and write ABOUT 200 words per slide in the notes section NOT the place where the images go.
• Your work should then be exported from PowerPoint to a PDF or a DOC file that should show slides and notes together and a “handout” be created. A description of how to do this is given on Moodle and in class.
• Your first slide should include a personal photograph. A reference list should be written in the notes section of the final slide only. Neither of these slides will be included in your word count.
• You will demonstrate each part of the DIKW with a slide for data, info, knowledge and wisdom in the following way:
• Data should come from that collected in a questionnaire designed in with FORMS in class and circulated to your classmates using a weblink. This will be managed by your lecturer.
• You should have at least one slide that shows how your skills at creating a chart based on the analysis of your primary data using Microsoft Excel. • You should also compare your research with the material presented in Week 7 called Data collected by students in January 2020 about grit. As your source of secondary data to gain knowledge.
• Finally, a conclusion should be provided from the analysis of both primary and secondary data that should include your personal insights to how we could develop grit to improve students’ academic level.
• The file should be uploaded to Turnitin under the written tab.
1. Engagement with Literature Skills Your work must be informed and supported by scholarly material that is relevant to and focused on the task(s) set. You should provide evidence that you have accessed an appropriate range of sources, which may be academic, governmental and industrial; these sources may include academic journal articles, textbooks, current news articles, organisational documents, and websites. You should consider the credibility of your sources; academic journals are normally highly credible sources while websites require careful consideration/selection and should be used sparingly. Any sources you use should be current and up-todate, mostly published within the last five years or so, though seminal/important works in the field may be older. You must provide evidence of your research/own reading throughout your work, using a suitable referencing system, including in-text citations in the main body of your work and a reference list at the end of your work.
This assignment will use this category for marking. We expect to see good use of Harvard Referencing that points to third parties agreeing or disagreeing with the argument you are making. We expect to see 8 references at least 2 should be from the books you have been given by the school for free. Higher marks will be awarded for students that have made further relevant readings than the ones given in class or on Moodle. You should have based your work on Ackoff, Duckworth, Dwek. 2. Knowledge and Understanding Skills At level 4, you should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the underlying concepts and principles associated with your area(s) of study. Knowledge relates to the facts, information and skills you have acquired through your learning. You demonstrate your understanding by interpreting the meaning of the facts and information (knowledge).
This means that you need to select and include in your work the concepts, techniques, models, theories, etc. appropriate to the task(s) set. You should be able to explain the theories, concepts, etc. to show your understanding. Your mark/grade will also depend upon the extent to which you demonstrate your knowledge and understanding. Guidance specific to this assessment: This assignment will use this category for marking. We expect to see you taking data and turning it into knowledge in the way we teach in class. You should make an argument and then demonstrate weather it is right or wrong using the surveys you make. You will be marked down for throwing random charts that do not fit with your argument... don’t make a chart that simply looks pretty.
We expect to demonstrate knowledge on DIKW triangle. Qualitative and Quantitative Data, Duckworth’s Grit Scale and Dwek’s Growth Mindset. 3. Cognitive and Intellectual Skills You should be able to present, evaluate and interpret qualitative and quantitative data, in order to develop lines of argument and make sound judgements in accordance with basic theories and concepts of your subject(s) of study. You should be able to evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to solvingproblems related to your area(s) of study and/or work. Your work must contain evidence of logical, analytical thinking. For example, to examine and break information down into parts, make inferences, compile, compare and contrast information.
This means not just describing what! But also justifying: Why? How? When? Who? Where? At what cost? You should provide justification for your arguments and judgements using evidence that you have reflected upon the ideas of others within the subject area and that you are able to make sound judgements and arguments using data and concepts. Where relevant, alternative solutions and recommendations may be proposed. Guidance specific to this assessment: This assignment will use this category for marking. Here we are looking at the way you think. Read your work after you have written it. Get someone else to read it. Does that other person think it makes sense? Try not to use words you do not understand. If you need to use “big” words, make sure you know what they mean.
Try to convince the awarding body that your journey from collecting data has given you an understanding of the subject that brings wisdom to the future teaching of ALL students. 4. Practical Skills At level 4, you should be able to apply the basic underlying concepts and principles to evaluate and interpret these within the context of your area of study. You should be able to demonstrate how the subject-related concepts and ideas relate to real world situations and/or a particular context. How do they work in practice? You will deploy models, methods, techniques, and/or theories, in that context, to assess current situations, perhaps to formulate plans or solutions to solve problems, or to create artefacts. This is likely to involve, for instance, the use of real-world artefacts, examples and cases, the application of a model within an organisation and/or benchmarking one theory or organisation against others based on stated criteria.
This assignment will use this category for marking. We are looking here for you to collect data of your own and compare it with data you have found elsewhere. One way you could do this is to find a survey that exists already and develop your own way of testing it. You are looking to show the awarding body that your data Wisdom is something that they should invest in. 5. Transferable Skills for Life and Professional Practice Your work must provide evidence of the qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment requiring the exercise of some personal responsibility. This includes demonstrating that you can communicate the results of your study/work accurately and reliably, and with structured and coherent arguments; that you can initiate and complete tasks and procedures, whether individually and/or collaboratively; fluency of expression; clarity and effectiveness in presentation and organisation. Work should be coherent and well-structured in presentation and organisation.
This assignment will use this category for marking. We expect to see you produce a piece of work that would be received well in a professional environment. Use your own words but remember that you are pitching to get some money for future research, so sound professional. Try not to ramble, again you can ask a “critical friend” to help you. Ask them to read it. If you do not have access to someone else read the document out loud. It honestly makes a difference as if you read in your head, you tend to read what you think you have said rather than what you have written. Another tip is to use the read-aloud button on word. Your document should use the features of Microsoft Word, but don’t go crazy with funny colours or fonts. Be careful to include charts that are appropriate.
