Module Assessment Tasks - Requirements and Guidelines

This assessment consists of six individual tasks with which you are expected to show that you have met the Module’s Learning Outcomes (please see these on page 3 of this document).

You are expected to complete all six tasks and submit these via Canvas within one Word document.  Each task has an individual limit of 300 words.  For Task six, you must complete the Module Tracker table (available at the end of this description).

The assessment will be explained in the first week of the module as an assessment unpacking session.  The guidance notes for this assessment are also available via Canvas.  There are two opportunities to have your draft work reviewed by your Module Tutor in Module Week 6 and 11.  Please use Harvard Referencing (intext and an end of text Reference List).

Please see assessment guidance for each individual task below:

Task 1 - Portfolio Task 1 - Mini Essay (300 words) - Management Theories

  • You are expected to write a brief analysis of management theories that we have covered within the module.  Please identify the management theories that have been discussed within the module and explain the reasoning for these theories (why do they exist?).  You are then expected to briefly compare and contrast the theories; by exploring similarities and differences between them.

Task 2 - Memo to the chief executive officer (CEO) of an organisation of your choice (300 words) - External Environment

  • You must firstly select an organisation in order to start this task, as you will be writing a brief memo to explain the key external environmental factors that affect/could affect your selected organisation.  In order to complete this task, you must provide a PESTLE (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, Environmental) analysis.  You must write a memo and provide at least two points for each external environmental section by completing the table on the next page:

Task 3 - Question (300 words) - Organisational Culture and Technology - Please provide a response to the following question:

  • Topics 7 and 8 of the module focuses on change, culture and technology.  Bringing these three topics together, you must answer the question: ‘When organisations decide to change their internal operations e.g. structure, marketing processes etc., what competitive advantage can this bring for an organisation?’.

In your response, you must consider organisational culture and technological advancements.

Task 4 - Academic Poster (300 words - A4 Paper Size) - Management decision making

  • Topic 9 of the module focuses on management decision making.  Considering the literature explored within topic 9, you must create an academic poster that analyses both scientific and intuitive management decision making
  • Your academic poster must distinguish the difference between scientific and intuitive management decision making
  • You must use business examples on the poster
  • Please make use out of diagrams, tables and charts

Task 5 - Mini Report (Proposal) (300 words) - Managerial Approaches

  • Topic 10 of the module focuses on management within small to medium sized enterprises (SME). Considering the literature explored within topic 10, you must write a mini report for a new proposed SME (this could be any new business idea).  The report must:
  • Make a proposal for a new SME and to decide on the best managerial approach
  • Include headings and sub-headings

1.Using information: Identify and apply relevant academic knowledge to complete all tasks.

2.Knowledge retention: Demonstrate retention of knowledge from module materials and in-class learning through selection of suitable content for each task.

  • The required referencing style for your assignment. *Whilst many modules require referencing in accordance with the Harvard Referencing convention, some modules – for example those within the School of Law – require Oxford Referencing. Please familiarise yourself with the requirements of your module.
