Chris Peterson at DSS Consulting
Answered

its an – Individual written assessment – Understanding yourself as a leader. it is based on a case study i have attached. it has word count 1500 excluding title page, references and appendices only). Assessment Item requires the writing of a reflective essay .plz read carefully assignment details and task part and do as per requirement.. i have attached all necessary documents... You will be expected to present information and evidence from, and cite, at least eight scholarly sources that includes three peer reviewed journal articles (absolute minimum requirement). Although these may include other academic sources such as books on specific leadership topics, chapters of edited books and so on, it is highly recommended that you use peer-reviewed journal articles. i have attached case study. The assessment item is based on the case study titled “Chris Peterson at DSS Consulting” (the case in available on Moodle). You should carefully read the case and imagine yourself in Chris Peterson’s position. At the end of the case Chris is asked “if she was prepared to lead the group in a new direction or if she would be more comfortable and successful returning to the IT practice as a functional specialist?” Your task is to reflect upon what your knowledge of yourself as a leader indicates you would do next if you were Chris Peterson. you have to use personality test also.... thanks

Introduction

While building an organization, what needs to be taken into account are the reasons why some succeed and some others fail. The answer to this lies in how efficiently the organization uses the resources at its disposal. One of the most important resources that need to be taken into account is the functionality and productivity of the human resource that a company possesses. However, while human resources are such an important factor, there is a need for leading the human capital. Without a valid direction, the human resources would not be able to work in an organized manner that succeeds in fulfilling the aims and objectives of the organization. The presence of a strong and valid leadership is thus imperative to the success of the organization. The leader is one that knows how to function and make others in the group work together towards achieving a common goal. The leader also works towards motivating each member in the team so that they succeed in delivering the best of their potential to the group. The following essay takes the case of Chris Peterson, who joined DSS as a high school teacher. She had the job of distributing technology across all the schools in the district. She then was promoted to the position of a consultant of Information Technology in the company and later became the project manager. Chris Peterson was selected as one of the most efficient leaders and was thus selected to head the South West region. She was given an extremely efficient team and they functioned well together. However, as soon as Chris Peterson began a project, the team faced certain challenges and Chris did not receive sufficient support from her boss Meg. The project was later canceled and Chris had a choice of either leading the team in a completely new project or to return to her earlier profession of IT specialist. In such a case, my personal belief is that if i had been in Chris’s place, I would have led my team in the new direction.

Contribution of leaders in Organizational setting

Chris Peterson has proved herself to be a efficient leader in her earlier projects. In the case of the canceled project, she could have led the project to a success had it not been for the lack of the company’s support. An organizational setting is one where the various individuals and teams work together towards achieving a common goal that concerns the organization (Rothwell & Chee, 2013). In Chris’s case, the team that she led was extremely efficient and well-coordinated. The organization’s success depends on the ability of the various members to work together and in a coordinated manner. In such a case, Chris’s earlier successes were a result of the ability of her team to work in a coordinated manner. The role of leader in an organizational setting is one of prime importance. It is the leader of an organization that makes every member in the team aware of the company’s goals and objectives. The leader in such a setting is also required to work in a manner that makes the other members feel motivated. In such a case, the leader should lead by example. The leader also needs to be someone that the other members respect and look up to. In Chris’s case, she was someone who had a long experience in the field of work that she was leading. I would have used the experience to efficiently decide on the paths that the team needed to follow. The presence of such a clarity also enabled a communication with the team members about the manner they were supposed to act and deliver their duties ("The evolving roles of the chief information officer", 2012). She was also a hard worker within the team. She was someone who worked the most and aimed at delivering the most. In such a case, she acted as a character that others in the organization would look up to. The respect that she earned in this case was a useful tool in creating her image as a responsible leader (Al-Banawi, 2012). My opinion would be that if a project was canceled, I should direct my team to a new direction instead of going back to the old job of being an IT consultant. This is because, I have already proven herself as an efficient leader earlier in my leadership career. Furthermore, the cancellation of the project was not a result of my fault. Rather, it was the company disinterested attitude and lack of support that caused the project to be canceled. In this case, I would move ahead of the failed project and begin working on a new one with utmost dedication. I would be able to lead the team in another project in the same way and also empower each member in matters of motivation and efficiency.
