COACH HOUSE PART 1: Design a coach house, which will be located in the rear yard of an existing home, in a residential district of Toronto. The size is approximately 6000 x 6000 mm in size. The design is not the primary focus of the project, it should be considered, but keep it simple. The design produced in PART 1: will be used to complete PART 2: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical and Lighting and PART 1 updated to reflect coordination. NOTE: This is a generic address and does not related to Quiz 1, it is to be built on a fictional lot within the City of Toronto. Refer to PROJECT BASE DWG in class file folder . Build within the boundary provided and assume your design meets zoning requirements The programme for the coach house is as follows; Approximately 50-60 m² total Two-storey, Light-frame wood construction with slab-on-grade or crawl-space and flat or slopped roof to suit you design. Full ground floor with partial second floor with overlook (open to-below) and Guardrail - OBC compliant Guardrail - Dimensions Stairway to second floor - OBC compliant stair width, rise, and run- Dimension Ground floor open studio space for artist w/ flat work tables, seating and kitchenette w/ sink Bedroom at second floor with closet - Provide BC minimum Height – Dimensions Small Seating (2 chairs) 3-piece washroom (sink/toilet/shower) Small storage room for art materials and canvass Mechanical room/closet (HVAC Equipment, Water Heater) Avoid direct sunlight into artist work space and provide opportunities for cross and stack-ventilation - Indicate on drawings Main entrance Located at Lane or side yard. Light Wood Framing: Assume 2x6 wood studs at exterior walls and 2x4 interior walls. Consider floor framing direction, larger supporting members (if needed) and load bearing exterior walls. Assume 2x10 wood joists can span a maximum of 4m. 2x12 members up to 6m and support 2x10 Joists if needed. Note, joist direction impacts HVAC Distribution. Using the information provided in class and the student’s own research, each student will provide the following Drawings: 1A) Floor Plans (Ground and Second only) - 1:50 Show immediately adjacent site context and access. Note, 1:50 Plans and Building section do not need show assembly details. Only overall wall and floor assembly thickness needs to be represented. Indicated section cut location both plans. Use an arrow to show joist direction, or label slab-on-grade. Label rooms and show simple furniture. 1B) Building Section - 1:50 Building section drawings should be cut through the second floor and open-to-below. 1C) Wall Section - 1:20 Complete wall section detail drawing extending from foot to just above the second floor. Consider and demonstrate structural elements including foundations, envelope cladding and control layers and interior finishes. Show framing direction. Provide important dimension only. Drawings can be produced by hand, ACAD, Sketchup, Revit or similar tools that the student is comfortable with. All drawings should be on 11x17 Landscape sheets with no more than 2 drawings per page and labeled. See Example Layout below.
