Preamble: The purpose of this assignment in KINE2P08 is to provide students with anopportunity to ‘experience research’ within a self-directed learning (SDL) format. Thisassignment is to be completed on your own time for credit in KINE2P08. Each student isasked to select either Option A or Option B – see below for details – then complete therequirements for the selected option. The due date is provided on the Calendar in thecourse site (further details can be accessed via Sakai).
Option A: Students who elect to complete this option will gain experience in researchas a participant in a study. The requirements to complete this option are the following:(a) Locate a research study, (b) Sign up to be a participant in a research study, (c)Submit proof of participation in a research study to the course instructor. Any of thefollowing documents will be accepted as proof of participation: (a) Informed ConsentForm (or equivalent), or (b) Written verification of participation from the PrincipalInvestigator of the study. Further details will be presented during lecture for studentsin KINE2P08.
Option B: Students who elect to complete this option will gain experience in researchby studying the home-field advantage in sports. The requirements to compete thisoption are the following: (a) Complete background reading about the home-fieldadvantage in sports via this link: https://psychology.iresearchnet.com/socialpsychology/control/home-field-advantage/, (b) Collect then analyse performance data(see Table 1 on the next page) from the Toronto Raptors to determine if a home-fieldadvantage exists for this professional basketball franchise, (c) Write a research abstractthat includes the following subheadings: Background to Study, Research Question(s),Research Hypotheses, Methods, Results, Conclusions, and (d) Print then submit theresearch abstract with your name and student identification number located in the topright hand corner of the submission. The research abstract is limited to a maximum and will follow guidelines published by the American PsychologicalAssociation
