Website Building Project Guidelines

Using Online Building Tool

Website built using an online building tool A minimum of 5-7 pages must be created Try not to use a pre-defined template or theme where possible. Instead, build the site using a blank template from the tools available in the platform if possible. If using a theme, really modify it from its original form to make your site more custom. You will submit a final URL to access the site. Custom Coded (HTML/CSS) A minimum of 3 pages must be coded in HTML5 and Styled with CSS These would include: About page, Portfolio with 3 examples of your work (each work can be individual pages), contact page All code must validate without errors. The majority of CSS must be implemented through a single, linked stylesheet, but you may have some styles in document heads or inline. Maximum size of your project folder is 150MB. This includes any local video files. You will need to optimize images and may need to limit the size or length of any local video to maintain quality. All HTML documents must have unique, meaningful titles, that employ proper Search Engine Optimization techniques. All filenames (this includes video files, image files, audio files, everything) must be legal: no spaces, no special characters (letters, numbers, the underscore and hyphen only). All the files necessary for your website (and no unnecessary files) must be contained within a project folder named website_YourFirstNameLastInitial. My project would be in a folder named website_LorneK. The opening page of the site must be called index.html (no caps). If that page isn't there, I will not open your site. Within this folder you may arrange your content in subfolders, but the opening page must be in the top level of the folder and must be named index.html. Decide on your folder structure before coding to avoid broken links. After thoroughly testing your site, zip (compress) the folder and submit it through the assignment dropbox in eConestoga before the deadline based on the naming convention mentions above. The website will also be uploaded to a server at Conestoga via an ftp client. General Requirements You must have an About page that includes a picture of you, and a paragraph of text about you. You could include some contact info. Online web builder sites must have a Contact page with your contact information, which can consist of only a valid and professional email address. You may include links to your social media accounts and even an embedded twitter feed, or contact form if you so desire. Each page must have a footer with basic copyright info, site name, and if you wish, some contact info. A minimum of three examples of your best work from three different projects must be provided in this portfolio. At least one of the examples must be a video and at least one of your examples must be a photograph. Your video(s) may be embedded from YouTube or Vimeo, but must have an independent description within your html text (see below). Every project that you feature, whether it be a video, a photograph, audio or writing, must be accompanied by a meaningful description (within the submitted website) that highlights such things as: purpose/objective, target audience, your role, skills used/demonstrated. While you may include a synopsis of what the video is about, that alone is not sufficient to receive full marks. All elements containing text should be proofread by several people. There should be no spelling errors or grammatical mistakes. Any errors will affect the mark you receive for your content. All buttons, links, and media playback controls must work as expected, from a user perspective. Navigation should be easy and efficient.. You must provide the accessibility features demonstrated in class, ensuring that all image tags contain meaningful alternate text and that all links contain a meaningful title attribute. If you replace headings and links with images, ensure that machine-readable html text is present within the tag (even if moved off screen using text-indent). None of your project work can contain any elements that do not strictly conform to copyright and intellectual property laws. The full assignment is worth 30% of your total mark in the course and will be judged on the following criteria: content design functionality/user experience accessibility marks will be deducted for missing requirements, illegal or incorrect file naming, non-validating html or css, spelling and grammar errors.
