Informal Recommendation Report on Niche Tourism in Kamloops

 For this assignment, your group will research and write an informal recommendation report in memo format. This is a research based document, and correct APA citation will be used throughout. Scenario As tourist numbers in Kamloops grow, new opportunities for tourism ventures are coming to light. While general tourism to the city is on a rise, visitors to Kamloops are consistently seeking new, unique, and more personalized forms of touristic experience. Tourism Kamloops recognizes the importance of meeting these travellers needs to continue a forward momentum in tourism numbers overall. They have tried to meet these needs introducing newer “niche” or “specialty” tourism events, such as occasions at Halloween (Spookloops), cycling, local salmon run events, and local vineyard tours, to name a few. Now, Tourism Kamloops has asked RESEARCH companies to present explore new niche tourism ideas that Kamloops may currently not have and might work in our city, or which Kamloops HAS but could be improved on or grown. **NOTE** Your company is NOT a “tourism” company, but a RESEARCH CONSULTING FIRM—you get hired to do the research for a business so they don’t have to. You are NOT marketing a product yourself, but making recommendations for what Tourism Kamloops should think about when looking to new tourism ideas or inviting/endorsing new companies to the city. Recommendation Report Produce an informal recommendation MEMO REPORT that synthesizes current research into positive and/or negative impacts of ONE TYPE of niche tourism which would work in the Kamloops tourism industry and, based on this research, make recommendations to Tourism Kamloops as they establish a strategy to create new tourism venture opportunities. Recommendations should be things that Tourism Kamloops can accomplish. They may not be able to actually build a large structure or theme park, but they may be able to recommend to the City of Kamloops new opportunities or to indicate that the city should zone an area for a theme park. What CAN Tourism Kamloops do? They can outreach to tourism companies and stakeholders, major corporations or other industry professionals; they can create visits to Kamloops for stakeholders or media; they can create new advertising or media to promote current tourism more efficiently (or new marketing campaigns); they can promote some new tourism events. Stay within a clearly-defined scope and don’t try to cover too much. You are choosing ONE niche area. You can adjust your scope between your proposal and final report (if you are struggling with your niche, change it!) You will be expected to include at least one visual to help your report.
