Answering Questions about the Story

Q 1) Answer the questions below in complete sentences. The answers to questions 1, 2, 3 and 4 should be one sentence long. The answer to question 4 should be at least three sentences long.

1. Why are C.J.’s friends jealous of his hat?

2. What is the reason that C.J. cannot go to Q-Tip’s house during school hours?

3. Which class did C.J. skip?

4. What did C.J. knock over in the drugstore?

5. If the main character C.J. looks back on this day 20 years later, do you think his view on the events in the story will change? In other words, what would he have learned in the 20 years since being a Grade 9 student?

Q-2) State whether the lines from the story “Skippin’ Out” are Directly Stated information or Indirectly Stated information. If the statement is Indirectly Stated information, write what you think it implies. Refer to the explanation in Lesson 1 if you forget the difference between Directly Stated information or Indirectly Stated information. The first two rows have been done for you. Q-3) Pretend you are the mall security guard in the story “Skippin’ Out”. You must write an Incident Report about what happened in the drug store. The ‘victim’ is The Drug Store Lady that offers to help C.J. because she is the drug store employee who interacts with C.J. The ‘witness’ is Pennington Sue. Fill out this report as neatly and completely as possible. Refer to the tips in Lesson 1 for filling out forms properly. For information that is not included in the story (e.g. dates) you will have to make it up - just make sure whatever you write makes sense!
