Creating a Compelling Company Website: Tasks and Guidelines

Company Webpage (Main or Home Page)

Tasks:

Your team will use create a website using free creation software (such as Squarespace or Wix) to create an actual website for your company. Your website should be compelling enough to gain customer interest.  Review several websites from similar businesses as your own to gather some ideas and look for trends.

Your team will create a company website with the following pages:

1.A “Company” webpage (main or home page)

a.Include company name and logo

One of the first decisions your team must make is the selection of a business name and logo.  Choosing a business name should be a creative process provoking a wide range of thoughts and ideas. Your company name will be how people identify your company and should communicate something about what you intend to provide.  For instance, are you aiming for a high-end image?  Perhaps something trendy?  Who are your target customers? What would be appealing to them?  Is this name easy to remember? Does the company name work well in a logo design?  These are the kinds of questions you should be considering as a team when choosing a name.

Compare competitor names and logos, conduct some research on best practices for company name selection and logo creation.  Brainstorm to come up with five potential names for the company.  Do not use names of any existing businesses.  When selecting a name consider the image you want to project and then from the five potential names, choose the one you feel is best.

b.Company promotional advertisement video

Your team will create a short promotional video for your company or product(s)/service(s). Embed the video on the main website page.  The promotional video can be to raise consumer awareness or to promote an upcoming sale or event

2.An “About Us” page

a.Types of products sold, types of customers served

b.Mission, vision, history

c.Corporate Social Responsibility and/or ethics strategy

3.A “Contact Us” webpage

a.Map location, email, social media

4.A “Products/Services” webpage

a.Products or services for sale with pricing and description as necessary. Provide at least eight. You may list more than eight.

5.An “Analysis” webpage

a.Perform a PESTEL (Political/legal, Economic, Socio-cultural/environmental, and Technological, Environmental and Legal) analysis. Consider that each factor from a local, national and international view.  Combine and summarize the environmental scan each member completed previously, then complete any missing parts. Explain with details at least three points for each factor.

Consider the following questions. Do you think this is a good time to be entering this market?  Is this a growing market?  What is the economic situation in the local, national, global market?  Is there a lot of competition in this area?  Are there incentives for opening this type of business?  Is labour available? Do you think that you’ll sell your product in another country? If so, what countries would you choose, and why? What challenges will you face?

b.SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis for your company. Explain with details at least two points for each factor. See template within relevant assignments folder on eCentennial.

c.Competitive Analysis - Combine and summarize the competitive analysis (Porter’s Five Forces) each member completed previously.

Your webpage for this assignment does not need to be interactive or have an online purchasing system; email links do not need to work. You are simply designing the main pages customers see when they arrive at your site and displaying the layout and design of your website – colours, text, components, abilities that would be there if all was functional.  Make it user-friendly, appealing, and don’t over-clutter it.  Have links from one page to the next. Be consistent in the use of your logo, colours, etc. to present a similar business image across media.  Refer to YouTube or other online tutorials for good website design.
