PURPOSE:
The purpose of the assignment is to expose learners with various problem solving strategies and to enhance learners’ problem solving and decision making skills.
REQUIREMENTS:
This is an individual assignment. There are THREE parts in the assignment. Answer each part separately, with separate introduction and conclusion.
PART 1
Read the following case study and write an essay based on the instructions below:
Halimah, a 19-year-old college student is deeply in love with Johan who is 10 years older than her. Johan works as an IT technician in the same college. They plan to get married next year. However, Halimah’s parents do not approve this relationship as they feel she is too young to be married. Moreover, as the eldest child in the family of 7, Halimah’s parents expect her to support the family when she starts working later. If you were Halimah, what would you do?
Write an essay consists of the followings:
1.Identify the issue (s)/problem(s) of the case.
2.Apply the four stages in problem solving discussed in Topic 4 to the case study above.
3.Relate your decision making process to the Evidence-Driven Decision-Making Cycle discussed in Topic 8.
PART 2
1.Think of any academic issue or problem that is highlighted or viral in Malaysia.
2.Identify for a problem solving tool/strategy to be used in solving the problem.
3.Then write a report on the following:
a)Introduction: The objective of the report
b)Content:
i.Description of the issue/problem;
ii.Application of ONE problem solving tool or decision-making strategy to solve or decide on the issue/problem;
iii.Elaboration on the solution or decision of the issue/problem.
c)Conclusion – Summary of the report and self-reflection about the process of doing the assignment.
