TEACH312-20A Social Science and Sustainability Education

This assignment is conducted individually. You are asked to carry out an investigation into a local or regional social/sustainability issue:
?A social/sustainability issue is something that is perceived as a problem for which there are different perspectives and that requires some sort of action to bring about change. The issue is likely to have environmental/social/cultural and economic aspects to it, but may focus primarily on one or two aspects.
?By local, we mean the issue must be situated in your local or regional area but could also be relevant to other regional areas. This can be local/regional either to your normal campus or your current lockdown location.
In your investigation you should:
?develop your knowledge of the issue through social inquiry from the sustainability aspects that you feel are relevant to the issue (e.g. environmental, social, cultural, economic), and connect to social sciences and sustainability concepts as appropriate;
?develop some experience of the issue by sourcing artefacts, websites, videos, photographs or opinion writing about local examples of the issue setting, and you to consider your own attitudes and values about the issue and those of others (normally this would involve visiting the site of the local example and gaining direct experience but unfortunately this may not possible under Covid-19 restrictions); and
?consider the implications of this issue for a sustainable future and how these might be addressed through action in relation to the relevant sustainability aspects.TIdentify and introduce a relevant local or regional sustainability issue that you have investigated
Demonstrate informed understanding of the selected issue in relation to the sustainability aspects (environmental, social, cultural, economic) relevant to the issue and associated concepts
Document and interpret values and attitudes towards the issue, drawing on evidence of your investigation through images and other artefacts
Consider and justify appropriate actions that could be taken on the issue, explain challenges and contribution to a sustainable future
Discuss your learning by making links to ideas related to social sciences and sustainability education and appropriate literature
Communicate your developing understandings of the issue in a well organised and informed way and accurately apply APA writing and referencing conventions
