Annotated Bibliography on Articles in Industrial and Organisational Psychology

Assignment requirements

Ten journal articles for this assignment covering the topics studied in this course have been uploaded to Stream for you. You must include a total of five articles in your annotated bibliography. Three of the journal articles (listed below) are compulsory for Assignment 2, and you can select any other two from the ten available on Stream. Compulsory Articles: Carse, T., Griffin, B., & Lyons, M. (2017). ). Shall we serve the Dark Lords? A meta-analytic review of psychopathy and leadership. Journal of Applied Psychology, 104(1), 183- 196. doi: 10.1037/apl0000357 Latu, I., & Mast, M. (2016). Male interviewers’ nonverbal dominance predicts lower evaluations of female applicants in simulated job interviews Note that an annotated bibliography is not like a literature review. You are only evaluating each chosen article in its own right. You do not need to do a literature review of the topic and include references to other articles. But you do need to refer to how your article sits with other theories/literature in general terms, drawing on the knowledge you have gained from this course. However, if another of your chosen articles for your annotated bibliography is also on the same topic, you can compare/evaluate an article against that other one (just cite it, but don’t reference it in a list). So annotated bibliographies do not have a reference list at the end of the annotations. For Assignment 2, each of the five annotated articles should be listed in alphabetical order, and should be headed by the reference for the article (in APA 7th ed), followed by a summary and evaluation of the key issues you have identified in the article, using paragraphs. Your annotation should also provide an evaluation of the topic in relation to other comparable theories/literature in general (noting the above point) . Your annotation needs to address the following six criteria: 1. Summary: Succinctly and accurately summarise the key points of the article. 2. Focus: How is the topic approached within the journal article? Is this approach narrow or broad in scope? Does this article take a central position in the topic area or is it located on the periphery (use your knowledge based on the course materials to inform this – you do not need to read further)? 3. Relevance: Is the article appropriate for its intended audience? Could any areas be improved? How well qualified is the author in the topic area? How well does the discussed topic fit with other literature/theories (use your knowledge based on the course materials to inform this – you do not need to read further)? 4. Quality: Are the arguments logically presented? Do the arguments make sense? Is scholarly evidence used to support points? Are alternative perspectives acknowledged? Are topics covered in enough depth? Have opposing pieces of evidence been omitted? Does the information summarise what is discussed in other literature (covered in this course – you do not need to read further) or does it offer something new? Is the information based on primary data, secondary data, based on reports which summarise events, or other's research findings? 5. Accuracy: How recent is the article? Even if it is a recent article, published within the last 2 years, does it refer to recently published material? Can some of the ideas be supported by other articles you have read in the area? 6. Implications: What implications for Industrial and Organisational Psychology practice have you identified whilst reading the article? Have you demonstrated that you have accurately interpreted the content of the article? Have you demonstrated an ability to apply your interpretation of the article to real workplace settings? Critical Thinking Critical reading is the process of reading that goes beyond just understanding a text. Critical reading involves:  carefully considering and evaluating the reading identifying the reading's strengths and implications  identifying the reading's weaknesses and flaws looking at the 'big picture' and deciding how the reading fits into the greater academic context (the understandings presented in other books and articles on this topic – here you just need to consider what you have learned about the topic in this course) In brief, you are actively responding to the reading. Critical reading is useful at all stages of academic study, but is particularly important when writing an article critique. Critical reading often involves asking questions about the reading. In particular, you are examining the strengths and weaknesses of the reading's argument. To do this, you need to consider:
