Assignment 1 is designed to assess your understanding of business entities, structures, functions, cultural context and the role IT/IS plays within an organisation in terms of both functioning and outputs.

Choose an existing company to use as a case study: this can be your existing place of work or a local/national/international organisation that interests you. Some suggestions of New Zealandbased companies you could base your case study on include Trademe, 2degrees, Xero, Jade, Datacom.

2. Provide a diagram that shows how the organisation might be structured based on the type of business and the products or services it provides.

3. Describe the key business functions of the organisation

4. Explain the role IT has in the organisation, and what impact it has on the organisation’s functions

5. Based on the information available for the business you have chosen, describe the workplace culture that the organisation operates in (Approx, 300 – 450 words).
