ITN312 Building Scalable Networks

Background

 

You are working as a network consultant in a system integration company. Recently your company landed a new project to refresh one pharmaceutical company’s internal IT infrastructure. 

You team is taking care of the network setup. Trusted by the team lead, you need to draft a proposal and implement a proof of concept for customer first.

The basic requirements from customer are as following

1. The scope only includes building internal network of the company, meaning only the office network and server farms, no external network and remote sites.

2. There are three departments working in this office
a. R&D – 300 users mainly on desktop computers
b. Sales – 20 users mainly on laptops
c. Corporate – 70 users mainly on desktop computers

3. Staff will be working primarily with PC and workstation in their cubicle, however wireless network access are also required for users on laptops and their personal mobile devices.

4. Around 40 servers are also hosted in the server farm to serve for data storage and processing. These servers have a requirement for large data transfer.

5. The network proposed should be scalable and secure.

6. The backbone of the network shall be resilient and able to carry large amount of data.

Deliverables

You need to hand in a report as well as a working packet tracer pkt file which serves as proof-of-concept demonstration. 

The commands that you use to set up the network devices in the packet tracer shall be produced and hand in as an appendix in the report as well.
