Sports Risk Minimisation and Relevant Legal Principles

Learning Objectives

This module will help the students identify the common sports risks and minimise them. Students will be introduced to the relevant legal principles that regulate the responsibilities of the coach, such as Negligence, Contract Law, Discrimination, Harassment and Natural Justice. With this knowledge, the students will analysis the situations involving coaches and athletes under their care, and develop a risk minimisation plan to reduce and properly manage the risk.

1. Discuss the moral, ethical, environmental and legal aspects which underpin the best practice in coaching.

2. Define and identify the various risks and hazards involved in sports and in coaching.

3. Discuss the importance of safety and risk management.

4. Identify factors that inhibit Risk Assessment Management and System (RAMS).

5. Identify the general safety and risk management components.

A system that:

 

1. Defines relationships between people, e.g. sales contract.

2. Prohibits misbehaviour, defines crimes and what is evil.

3. Defines what reasonable behavior is even when you are not committing crimes, e.g. no reckless driving.


4. Defines what freedom is and its limitations e.g. freedom to speak vs slander.
