The following module learning outcomes are tested in this assessment:
1) Apply linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) in structural fracture analysis.
2) Apply the fracture mechanics principles for the analysis of structural fatigue failure.
3) Use FEA to solve one- and two-dimensional structural problems both theoretically and with commercial software. Use CFD commercial software to solve fluids flow in engineering problems.
This assignment also covers the following learning outcomes specified in Accreditation of HE Programmes’ (AHEP) used by Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE):
? Understanding of, and the ability to apply, an integrated or systems approach to solving complex engineering problems
? Apply advanced problem-solving skills, technical knowledge and understanding, to establish rigorous and creative solutions that are fit for purpose for all aspects of the problem including production, operation, maintenance and disposal
? Understanding of the requirement for engineering activities to promote and ability to apply quantitative techniques where appropriate
? Understanding of the use of technical literature and other information sources
? Apply their skills in problem solving, communication, information retrieval, working with others and the effective use of general IT facilities
? Exercise initiative and personal responsibility, which may be as a team member or leader
