Programming Notations and Conventions

Assessment Overview

1. Analyse given problems and formulate designs for programmed solutions,Use standard programming notations and conventions when constructing solutions for specified problems,Apply programming constructs when developing solutions for specified problems,Formulate testing strategies for programming errors.

You are required to develop a Windows Form/GUI application for a Math Learning Game for Primary School children. The software will be for children of Year groups 4 – 6 (remember, these are not “age” groups; these are class groups, i.e. Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6). The age, related to the year group can be found in the following image.

1. Ask three (3) Addition questions

2. If all three answers in 1 are correct, ask three Subtraction questions

3. If all answers in 2 are correct, ask three Multiplication questions

4. If all answers in 3 are correct, ask thee Division questions

5. Conditions for the termination/end of the game:

*The game does not proceed to the next level if the child has one or more answers wrong at any of the above four levels. She and he can start again or end the game

*If all the answers are correct, the child wins and the game ends

6. You must provide appropriate feedback at the end of each level whether the child gets all the answers correct or not.

-Capturing and documenting both Functional and Non-functional requirements (as discussed in the class)

-Carefully consider the feedback approach for young children

-Font/Colour scheme suitable for primary school children (Hint: Non-functional requirements).

You are encouraged to use a database for registration of the child, storing the scores/results etc. If you do choose to do so, in your report, think about and discuss security in line. This is purely optional for your practice/learning purposes and will not carry/give you any extra credit.

1. Develop a hierarchical structural diagram (i.e. Flowchart) for the programme. An example layout is shownbelow:

2. Write pseudocode for each method. In your report, discuss data type(s) for parameter(s) for each method and data type of returned value for non-voidmethods.

1. Develop a structured program using appropriatealgorithms

2. Ensure appropriate comments are included within your program to explain functionality

3. Utilise data validation and exception handlingtechniques

4. Include programming code and corresponding annotated screenshots of program in executionas evidence within your report

1. Test each method separately - include relevant screenshots.

2. Document your testing process. You may use the following table to document your process:

-You must demonstrate your program during the practical session on the dates shown on page 1 of this assignment brief

-No demonstration means zeromark in the Assignment.
