Re-assessment Work for ENGT5202 Module Failure

Marking Criteria for Re-assessment Work

This information is only relevant to those students who failed the ENGT5202 module (i.e. their overall module mark is below 50%) and whom have been advised by the Faculty Office that they need to resit one or both of the module components. If you have passed the module (i.e. your overall module mark is ≥ 50), this information does not apply to you. II) As this is re-assessment work, the marking criteria are: ‘Below 40%’, ‘between 40 – 50%’ or ‘PASS’ (resit marks are capped at 50%). A PASS grade (50%) will be awarded to a properly structured and presented assignment that demonstrates good understanding of the assessed topics, functional code and suitable presentation of the results.

A mark between 40 and 50 % will be awarded for assignments that fall short of meeting the assessment briefs in full, contain some errors and/or the presentation of the results is poor, but however they still show a sufficient amount of understanding and show that enough work has been carried out. A mark below 40% will be awarded to students failing to structure their report appropriately and/or demonstrating a lack of understanding about the concepts assessed.

The module learning outcomes that are assessed by this coursework are:
1. Systematic understanding of machine vision technology and its potential applications, and a critical awareness of current problems and new insights in the design of machine vision systems
2. Systematic understanding of robotics technology and its application, and a critical awareness of current problems and new insights in the design of robotics systems.
3. Ability to deal with complex issues related to flexible / intelligent automation systematically and creatively. Demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems, and act autonomously in planning and implementation of systems integrations.

Perform a literature review on Sony’s AIBO ERS-1000 model, from the perspective of its sensors, actuators, kinematic/locomotion capabilities and user control capabilities and provide the answer to the following questions in PART B or your report:

B1. List all the sensors available in an AIBO ERS-1000 and for each sensor briefly specify their purpose, if they are proprioceptive or exteroceptive and respectively if they are active or passive.
B2. What actuators does the AIBO ERS-1000 use and what exactly are these used for?
B3. With respect to its kinematic/locomotion capabilities, how many total degrees of freedom does an AIBO ERS-1000 have, how are these distributed on its body and where exactly are they located?
B4. List and briefly explain all the ways in which users can control an AIBO ERS-1000.

There is no fixed word limit. Refer to the above guidance and use appropriate judgement as necessary in relation to each section of the report, without either going overboard to the extent that meaningless information is included just to increase the word count or falling to the other extreme where the information provided is so brief that it fails to cover important information that should be included. For example, if a section is just one brief paragraph long, then it is very likely too brief; if a section is several pages of text long (excluding images, tables and code, etc) then it might be too long.
