The learning outcomes that are assessed by thiscourseworkare:
1.To recognise and engage with contentious issues regarding resource use and waste reduction
2.To select, summarise and examine in a systematic way the design considerations for reduced waste and resource use
3.To read and selectively draw upon a government report in the development of an argument
4.To identify and incorporate relevant literature into your discussion5.To identify and present a clear set of supported design recommendations for addressing a complex resource issue
Tasks to be undertaken:
The previous assignment (A) for this module asked you to consider a resource related concept -the Rebound Effect. Assignment B continues with this broad approach and asks you to look beyond the confines of a single discipline to the wider academic, practitioner and policy issues that are reflected in the move towards more Resource Efficient Design.For the assignment you are asked:To identify a specific product or process and to outline a set of DESIGNrecommendations for improving the efficiency with which resources are usedthroughout its life cycle.You might have an active interest in the product or processthrough work, leisure or local action.Alternatively,you could select one about which you havesome knowledge but are not actively involved. The assignment is not specifically focused onthe design of an artefact but may refer to the design of a process that contributes toenhanced resource efficiency.
In particular you are asked to:
1.Provide a brief but clear overview of the resource considerations within the selectedprocess or product lifecycle;
2.Identify a range of interventions that will reduce the use of natural resources, energy and/or level of waste generated in the selected product or process;
3.Provide a summary set of design recommendations
